Patient Service Coordinator (Ophthalmology) We are seeking a Patient Service Coordinator who will manage all administrative (non-clinical) aspects of the patient encounter. This includes accurate data entry on each patient to facilitate the patient encounter, expediting the check-in / check-out procedure.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Greets each patient in a kind and professional manner.

Manages patient check‑in including verification and entering of insurance information and patient demographic information into EPIC.

Confirms all required forms are up to date, completed and signed by patient.

Rotates through expanded hours 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

May obtain pre‑certification as required by patient’s health‑care insurer or managed care provider.

Facilitates smooth transfer of patients during their visit within the department or between several departments within Wilmer, including correspondence with individual clinic management for clarification of multiple appointments.

Maintains familiarity with various types of insurances; contacts insurance carriers for clarification of coverages to avoid denials of payment.

Monitors and responds to missing items in the work queue.

Supports East Baltimore clinics, Bendann Surgical Pavilion and other satellite clinics when coverage is short.

Collects time-of-service payment, issues receipts and prepares cash settlement records.

Guides patients and families to appropriate resources (financial counselors, international office, social worker).

Maintains cleanliness and stocking of Wilmer’s main lobby area.

Works collaboratively with others.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.

1 year work experience in customer service required; two years related work experience preferred.

Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high‑school diploma/degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications Two years of experience in related Ophthalmology and/or JHHS entity preferred; knowledge of medical insurance and/or medical terminology preferred.

Benefits The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate’s geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications.
