Gersh Autism Academy invites applications for the Behavior Technician (Paraprofessional) position in Hempstead, NY.
Gersh Autism has empowered students on the autism spectrum for over 30 years, serving ages 5‑21 across the U.S. and Puerto Rico with personalized K‑12 education and comprehensive therapeutic services.
Key Responsibilities
Assist classroom teachers in implementing IEPs and BIPs for students with autism.
Provide one‑on‑one and small group support to promote academic, social, and behavioral growth.
Help students with daily tasks, including communication, social interaction, and self‑management skills.
Support students during classroom activities, field trips, and other school‑related events.
Apply behavior intervention strategies to encourage self‑regulation and readiness to learn.
Collect and document data on student performance, behavior, and progress toward goals.
Collaborate with the teaching team and behavioral specialists to create a positive learning environment.
Communicate effectively with teachers and staff regarding student progress and challenges.
Participate in daily training sessions with behavioral analysts and engage in professional development.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or higher in education, psychology, or related field preferred.
Experience working with children, especially those with autism or special needs, is a plus but not required.
A passion for supporting students with autism and other developmental disabilities.
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and flexible.
Willingness to complete RBT training and certification within a specified timeframe.

Physical Requirements
Ability to implement CPI procedures (therapeutic holds) and safely manage students.
Capability to lift a child and remove oneself from harmful situations, as needed.
