FinOps Engineer – Data Organization
At FanDuel, the data platform underpins critical business operations that need to run with maximum efficiency and scalability. This FinOps Engineer role sits within our Data organization and focuses on building out financial operations practices that provide visibility, governance, and optimization of our cloud spend.
Responsibilities
Build financial operations practices for cloud spend.
Drive cloud cost management, reporting, and optimization.
Implement cost monitoring, tagging, and reporting.
Develop dashboards, reports, and automated alerts to improve visibility into cloud spend and efficiency.
Partner with engineering and finance teams to embed cost‑aware practices into architecture and pipelines.
Support FinOps best‑practice adoption across the data organization.
Contribute to standards, best practices, and long‑term strategy for the data platform.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Company.
Qualifications / Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in cloud cost management, FinOps, or cloud infrastructure roles.
Experience implementing cloud cost optimization strategies across AWS and data platforms (Databricks, Redshift, etc.).
Strong skills in cost monitoring, tagging, and reporting; able to identify anomalies and optimization opportunities.
Proven ability to build dashboards, reports, and automated alerts for cloud spend.
Experience creating and managing cost allocation models, budgets, and forecasting processes for cloud resources.
Familiarity with chargeback/showback models and financial governance frameworks.
Track record partnering with engineering teams to embed cost‑aware practices into architecture and pipelines.
Experience collaborating with finance teams and vendors to align on budgets, forecasts, and cost‑reduction strategies.
Strong analytical and communication skills, translating cost insights into actionable recommendations.
Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (SQL, Python, Databricks, Tableau, PowerBI).
Experience with cloud governance and policy management; strong understanding of AWS pricing models.
Knowledge of cloud‑based data platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and cloud cost management tools (AWS Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Reports, third‑party tools).
