Job Description This position performs a variety of diagnostic cardiac/vascular exams under the direction of a physician for identification of abnormalities leading to patient diagnosis.
As an Echo Sonographer at Intermountain Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our Imaging service line, ensuring our patients receive the best care. Shift Details PRN (As Needed)
Unit/Location Rocky Mountain Clinic
Responsibilities
Perform a variety of ultrasound procedures that utilize high‑frequency sound waves to evaluate internal organs and vessels for the diagnosis of disease. Prepare the exam room, obtain informed consent, request an accurate clinical history, review patient history, determine proper protocol selection, explain the method of examination, position the patient, assess the patient’s status and needs, complete appropriate diagnostic techniques/tests, and perform necessary interventions.
Review and evaluate completed tests for quality, completeness, and type of test ordered. Ensure quality images. Coordinate the preparation of images/exams and needed documentation for physician partners.
Document and communicate patient‑related information thoroughly and accurately. Inform the patient of physician instructions or ancillary caregiver observations or concerns and take these into consideration in providing appropriate care. Meet the needs of the patient, family and multidisciplinary team through effective communication, coordination and documentation ensuring safety, care, courtesy and efficiency. Ensure safe and effective hand‑off between shifts by communicating clearly with the oncoming shift.
Monitor equipment reliability and safety. Report issues and/or repairs or service needed. Order and stock supplies, clean rooms and equipment to maintain a work environment. Transport patients as needed.
Actively participate in quality initiatives, including patient satisfaction, patient care and workflow.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required; new graduate hires must obtain registry within 18 months of hire
Health Care Provider Life Support certification
Preferred Qualifications
At least one (1) year ultrasound experience
Associate’s degree
Physical Requirements Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions requiring verbal communication, hearing and understanding spoken information. Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment, frequent computer use, typing for documentation, medication preparation, etc. Expected to lift and transfer patients, bend to retrieve, lift and carry supplies and equipment (various weights). Navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment, power cords on the floor. May be required to stand in a stationary position for an extended period.
