Base pay range $22.00/hr - $26.00/hr

Overview Leads and assists in the construction, installation, and maintenance of communications towers and support structures and related telecommunications equipment. Leads by example to facilitate timely job completion. Tower Technicians work irregular hours, travel frequently, and work at great heights in extreme weather conditions.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Climbs and works on communications towers for the purpose of installing, replacing, and repairing antenna systems equipment.

The basic use and care of hand tools and mechanical equipment.

Completes required daily Job Safety Analysis’ (JSA’s).

Knows the hazards associated with tower climbing, construction equipment, and working on or near energized lines and equipment.

Can climb tall structures (100 feet or more) with a 50 lb. load.

Analyzes situations accurately and adopts an appropriate course of action.

Communicates orally and in writing.

Follows instructions accurately and completes assigned course of action.

Recognizes safety hazards and performs duties in a safe manner.

Maintains a clean, orderly environment adhering to company policies and industry regulations/standards (OSHA).

Knowledge of custom tower rigging techniques.

Performs tape drops.

Proficient with topside testing procedures (sweeps, PIM, fiber testing, etc.).

Performs GPS antenna alignment.

Proficient with installation of antennas, RRH’s, ground kits, RET systems.

Troubleshoots RET systems.

Runs required lines to the top of the tower; grounds coax lines and builds connectors.

Stacks tower steel and installs sector mounts.

Basic knowledge of microwave dish and radio installations and path alignment.

Can train lower-level tower techs.

Proficient with all field requirements for completion of closeout packages.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Working knowledge of basic hand tools, mechanical equipment, and electro‑mechanical equipment.

Basic computer skills.

Self‑motivated and quick learner.

Ability to lift over 70 pounds.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

2 to 3 years of industry experience.

Good communication, reading, and writing skills (English).

Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Clean driving record and valid driver’s license.

Availability for out‑of‑town travel if required.

Trained: ComTrain, OSHA10, RF Awareness, First Aid/CPR.

Experience with Anritsu Site Master, Andrew, PPC, tower mapping, and antenna equipment.

Experience stacking self‑support towers, installing waveguide, antennas, and microwave dishes.

RF Awareness, replacement, and maintenance (coax, jumpers, TMA’s, connectors, weather proofing).

Highly organized and effective at reporting verbally and written reports to the Tower Foreman.

Physical Demands

Regularly stands, uses hands to handle objects, reaches, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, and walks; occasional sitting.

Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 75 pounds, frequently up to 100 pounds, and occasionally more than 100 pounds.

Requires close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision.

Work Environment

Works near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, and in outdoor weather conditions.

Exposed to wet/humid conditions, extreme heat, electrical shock, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, and extreme cold.

Noise level is usually moderate.
