Overview The Product Designer for the TV streaming platform will play a pivotal role in shaping how audiences experience digital news and entertainment across connected TVs and streaming devices for CNBC & MSNBC. This role blends visual design, interaction design, and user experience strategy to create intuitive, elegant, and brand-consistent interfaces that engage viewers in a fast-evolving streaming environment. The Product Designer will collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, and Editorial teams to design experiences that bring live news, on-demand video, and personalized recommendations to life on the big screen. The designer will be responsible for crafting end-to-end user journeys—from discovery and onboarding to playback and engagement—ensuring the experience feels seamless, responsive, and optimized for remote navigation. They will use research, data, and design thinking to guide decision-making, while championing accessibility and cross-platform consistency. The ideal candidate is passionate about streaming media, storytelling, and creating intuitive designs that make complex information feel effortless, engaging, and distinctly reflective of a modern digital news brand.
Responsibilities
Design user-centered experiences for CNBC and MSNBC streaming products across connected TV, mobile, and web platforms.
Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, and Editorial teams to bring breaking news, live events, and on-demand video to life through intuitive and elegant design.
Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals that define seamless end-to-end user journeys—from live playback to personalized content discovery.
Develop and maintain design systems specific to the CNBC and MSNBC streaming ecosystem to ensure visual consistency and scalability across platforms.
Conduct usability testing and incorporate data-driven insights to refine navigation, playback controls, and content layouts.
Work closely with audience analytics teams to translate viewer behavior and engagement patterns into actionable design improvements.
Champion accessibility and inclusive design to ensure experiences are optimized for all audiences, including those using remote navigation on connected TVs.
Collaborate with brand and editorial stakeholders to ensure designs align with CNBC’s financial authority and MSNBC’s journalistic integrity.
Ensure all UI elements reflect the distinct tone, typography, and visual identity of each brand while maintaining cross-network cohesion.
Partner with engineering teams to guide pixel-perfect implementation and troubleshoot design execution issues.
Stay current on streaming media design trends, evolving user behaviors, and competitive platforms within the news and entertainment space.
Contribute to product strategy discussions by advocating for user needs and identifying opportunities for innovation within live and VOD experiences.
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of product or UX design experience, ideally within digital media, streaming, or OTT environments.
Strong portfolio demonstrating cross-platform design work, with examples in video or news-based experiences.
Proficiency with Figma and prototyping tools for rapid concepting and iteration.
Experience designing for connected TV platforms (e.g., Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Samsung, etc).
Strong understanding of responsive design, motion principles, and interaction patterns optimized for large screens.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with proven ability to work across product, editorial, and engineering teams.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with live-streaming UX, content discovery, and recommendation interfaces.
Familiarity with CNBC and MSNBC audiences, brand guidelines, and content priorities.
Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design best practices.
Understanding of A/B testing, UX research, and analytics-driven design optimization.
Experience contributing to or managing large-scale design systems across multiple brands.
Passion for the intersection of technology, journalism, and visual storytelling in streaming media.
Benefits and Additional Information This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Salary range: $110,000-$130,000.
