Job Purpose: Teach both halves of the United States survey sequence and upper division course in African American history.
Essential Functions
Teach both halves of the U.S. History survey sequence; develop and teach upper‑division courses related to African American History and History of Race/Ethnicity in the United States, and other specialty areas as needed.
Develop and fulfill courses in African American, Civil Rights, and Race history in the United States.
Maintain a teaching philosophy and preferred instructional methods compatible with department goals and resources.
Relate effectively with students, faculty, and other university personnel.
Maintain an active research agenda with discernible results.
Teach an equivalent of 12 hours per semester.
Advise and mentor students on academic and vocational matters.
Mentor student groups.
Perform departmental administrative duties as assigned.
Serve on university committees, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
An earned PhD in History from an accredited institution by August 1, 2026.
Demonstrated expertise and ability to teach African American History and History of Race/Ethnicity in the United States.
Experience teaching at least one course in the U.S. History survey sequence and capable of teaching both halves.
Ability to teach courses in the existing African American history curriculum and develop and teach upper‑division history courses in race and ethnic history in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with digital history.
Experience teaching both halves of the United States Survey sequence and additional subfields that augment existing departmental specialties.
Demonstrated commitment to collaborative undergraduate education.
Ability to contribute to graduate and professional degree programs.
Demonstrated ability to relate effectively with students, faculty, and other university personnel.
High engagement with majors and the community is highly preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Full‑time, nine‑month, tenure‑track position to begin August 1, 2026.
Benefits include accumulation of one (1) sick leave day per month, thirteen (13) University holidays, medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401(k), educational benefits, and deferred income and benefits over 12 months.
