Lecturer/Senior Lecturer – School of Risk and Actuarial Studies
Location: Kensington, NSW, Australia (Hybrid Flexible Working). Employment type: Full time – 35 hours per week. Tenure track. Remuneration: Level B from $127,947 or Level C from $155,403 (plus 17% superannuation and leave loading). Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance may be considered.
Responsibilities
Engage in individual and/or collaborative research in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
Create scholarly impact recognised by peers and contribute to the advancement of disciplinary knowledge.
Conduct research under limited supervision, independently or as part of a team, and design research projects.
Contribute to the development of applications for competitive funding under senior guidance, including participation as co-investigator or chief investigator.
Mentor students and colleagues, supervising HDRs and developing the next generation of academics.
For Senior Lecturers: make independent contributions to research with significant impact, establish a nationally recognised research track record, develop research groups, attract peer recognition and secure research income from nationally competitive grants.
Qualifications
PhD in actuarial studies, economics, risk and insurance, quantitative finance, machine learning or a related discipline.
Capability to contribute to UNSW’s core strengths in actuarial analytics, risk management & insurance, retirement and pensions.
Track record of high‑quality, high‑impact research and evidence of research leadership.
Experience in teaching and learning design at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
Evidence of professional involvement and industry engagement.
Desirable: post‑doctoral research experience, industry experience, and/or professional actuarial qualifications (e.g., Associateship of the Actuaries Institute).
For Senior Lecturers: demonstrated success in recruiting and supervising high‑calibre students, curriculum development, teaching effectiveness, and ability to attract funding.
