Position Overview Responsible for the preparation, cooking, quality and presentation of food for patients, staff, visitors and catering functions. Follows established policies and procedures to ensure the quality and accuracy of food served to patients. Instructs and functionally supervises the activities of other employees performing the same or related duties. Supports the functionality of the department by providing general sanitation including cleaning and storing dishes, utensils and pots, and disinfecting work areas. Gains confidence and cooperation from peers and supervisors through effective communication and competent job performance. Adheres to all local, state and federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure sanitation and safety while delivering optimal performance.

Culinary Services

Measures, assembles and cooks food for serving according to established recipes, using the appropriate kitchen utensils and equipment.

Maintains cook’s area, equipment and service ware in a clean, orderly and sanitary condition.

Prepares and cooks food items for modified diets, observing dietary restrictions and using standard recipes.

Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames.

Training

Instructs and functionally supervises the activities of other employees performing the same or related duties.

Clerical

May perform clerical tasks such as retrieving, entering and revising patient electronic health records.

Prepares and completes accurate, job‑related documentation, including all food intake and response to diet in medical and departmental records as required.

Safety

Maintains a clean, neat, and safe working environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment after use.

Inspects equipment accordingly for proper sanitation and working order, reporting any insufficiencies to the supervisor.

Compliance

Performs job responsibilities in compliance with department standards, policies and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulatory agencies to deliver the highest level of service.

Follows department safety and sanitation standards including proper use of chemicals and personal protective equipment.

Education HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

Typical Experience 2 years recent relevant experience.

Skills And Knowledge

Knowledge of maintaining a safe food environment including proper cleaning procedures and various equipment.

Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to instruct and functionally supervise the activities of other employees.

Possess written and verbal communication skills to communicate with fellow team members, supervisors, patients, and other hospital personnel.

Well‑developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies and procedures to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.

General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).

Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.

Identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.

Build collaborative relationships with peers and other staff members to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.

Pay Range US$33.94 to $40.72 / hour

Salary Note The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
