Youth Corrections Officer 1
Hiring Bonus: $5,000 available.
Job Summary We are seeking applicants who are committed to making a difference in the lives of Arizona's youth, and who are ready for a rewarding career. Joining the ADJC team offers hands‑on experience and the chance to work with professionals dedicated to rehabilitating Arizona's youth.
Effective July 1, 2021, ADJC is offering a $5,000 Hiring Incentive for all newly hired Youth Corrections Officer 1’s.
Duties
Mentoring, supervising, and directing incarcerated youth.
Role modeling positive behaviors.
Teaching life skills.
Assisting teachers with classroom management.
Transporting youth to daily activities.
Providing crisis intervention.
Providing youth a safe and secure environment.
Additional Duties
Monitoring assigned unit for safety hazards or security violations.
Performing searches for weapons and contraband.
Conducting visitation inspections.
Updating various logs and records, and sharing reports.
Training
Seven‑week paid Youth Corrections Officer Training Academy.
Eight‑week training schedule: Monday‑Friday, 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Training topics: Juvenile Corrections Procedures, Officer Skills, Crisis Intervention, Adolescent Treatment Issues, Legal Issues in Juvenile Corrections.
Two weeks of paid on‑the‑job training upon completion.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
Human behavior to include growth, development, needs and problems of youth.
Proper methods and circumstances requiring use of force.
Language as it pertains to youth care, custody treatment and rehabilitation.
Standard housekeeping practices.
Verbal and written communication.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Work indoors and outdoors in varying Arizona weather conditions.
Learn and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, programs and activities established for the agency.
Apply appropriate restraint techniques and respond to emergency situations.
Maintain a secure environment and provide crisis intervention and first aid.
Qualifications
Military Veterans or Law Enforcement background preferred.
Experience working with youth or juveniles preferred.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
18 years of age or older.
High School Diploma or GED.
No felony convictions.
Current valid Arizona driver’s license.
Video Impact Test, Panel Interview, Behavioral Assessment, Comprehensive Background Investigation, Drug screen, Pre‑placement Physical Exam, Predictive Index Survey.
Must successfully complete the paid seven‑week ADJC Pre‑Service Training Academy.
Requires successful completion of the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).
