Heavy Equipment Operator
Memphis-Shelby County Schools – Heavy Equipment Operator.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Responsible for operating a variety of heavy trucks, tractors and construction equipment on a regularly assigned basis; checks for improper functioning of the equipment during operations; primarily operates a street sweeper, bulldozer, front-end loaders, asphalt paving machine, asphalt paving rollers, twin axle trucks and equipment, backhoe, tractor, forklifts, skid steer loader, and motor patrol.

Responsibilities
- Level dirt in parking lots in preparation for asphalt crew.
- Distribute earth to desired levels.
- Cut, swell and ditch for drainage as needed.
- Use equipment to dig ditches for renovations.
- Digs and/or loads dirt, sand, gravel, etc. onto trucks or other equipment.
- Utilize equipment to excavate and grade for site improvements.
- Use equipment to remove trees and rocks from land.
- Operate forklift to move materials, equipment and furniture.
- Service equipment with gas, oil and water as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Four (4) years related experience.
- Valid state Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- ASE certification or National Institute for Automotive Service certification preferred.
- Ability to perform heavy engine work.
Additional Information
Degree Equivalency Formula: Bachelor's Degree = 4 years plus required experience; Master's Degree = 2 years plus required experience.
