Responsibilities
Job Summary The RN practices guided by the ANA standards and Code of Ethics. Responsibilities include recording medical histories, performing diagnostic tests, operating equipment, administering treatments, and patient follow-up. The RN develops and contributes to care plans, administers medications and therapies, teaches patients and families, and delegates tasks to LPNs and aides. The RN supports clinical knowledge advancement, precepts new staff and students, and works to improve patient experiences and outcomes. All RN staff caring for stroke patients must have knowledge of stroke symptoms, protocols, NIHSS, and related resources.
Essential Functions
Collects health data systematically, prioritizes based on patient needs, and develops individualized, evidence-based care plans. Identifies expected outcomes and implements interventions, including treatments and emergency measures. Evaluates patient progress, documents care, and ensures quality and effectiveness of care plans. Maintains current knowledge of nursing practice, evaluates practice standards, and integrates ethical principles and cultural needs. Collaborates with healthcare team members and contributes to professional development and research-based practice improvements. Considers safety, effectiveness, and cost-efficiency in patient care delivery.
Education
Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred. Diploma or ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months or have 10 years of RN experience. All staff caring for stroke patients must complete specific education requirements prior to start.
Experience
Over 10 months in med-surg or acute specialty setting. 1 year RN experience required for float positions.
Licenses and Certifications
BLS certification required. Arizona RN license required. Unit-specific national certification preferred.
