What You Will Do
The Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance (E&I) Engineer provides engineering support for chemical manufacturing areas, offering technical support to troubleshoot and solve problems impacting equipment reliability, environmental compliance, and safety. This includes specification and selection of new equipment, as well as supporting reliability improvements for existing equipment. The role will also be a key participant in root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis efforts.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Understand, follow, and participate in the upkeep of Bayer electrical and instrumentation norms, practices, standards, guidelines, and procedures, staying current with industry standards, technology, and improved safety methods.
Provide key equipment support for the maintenance of area process operations; identify, evaluate, specify, and select process equipment to ensure the reliable and safe operation of the assigned assets.
Ensure the operability, reliability, and integrity of the assigned assets.
Provide support for electrical distribution systems and infrastructure projects within the Muscatine facility including switchgear, transformers, transmissions, arc flash, and monitoring.
Understand electrical infrastructure voltages ranging from 480 V to 13.8 kV.
Manage larger, complex turn‑arounds of the assigned assets.
Support the coordination and scheduling of assigned plant safety and reliability inspections.
Review results and support plan, design, and execution of necessary repairs and/or modifications to resolve discrepancies identified by the Electrical Reliability group.
Lead and participate in root cause analysis, asset criticality analysis, and failure mode and effects analysis studies to improve reliability of the area equipment.
Evaluate and provide electrical engineering and/or project management services with respect to electrical infrastructure ensuring the achievement of project and operational objectives within the full life‑cycle of the project.
Responsible for identifying, evaluating, and implementing equipment and process modifications to eliminate deficiencies, bottlenecks, and process problems including motors, instrumentation, control, and heat‑trace systems, networking, and SAP.
Work with OEM suppliers, local vendors, and the stores to develop appropriate sparing strategies while effectively utilizing Bayer resources.
Ensure compliance with safety and environmental requirements and engineering standards regarding equipment and NFPA 70E.
Comply with site safety rules and actively work to improve safety through coaching or engineered improvements.
Develop and maintain equipment documentation: descriptions, spare parts, equipment lists, histories, manuals, flow sheet documentation, drawings, etc.
Provide equipment‑specific technical training on operation and maintenance of process equipment in process operations; support start‑up of equipment and unit operations; improve equipment performance to enable best practices in site operations.
Foster experience exchange and promote knowledge transfer with other plant engineers.
Promote continued development of self and area personnel through peer coaching and providing constructive feedback.
Support Site and Area Production System improvement, OnePSS.
Required Qualifications
BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related science and 7 years of relevant progressive engineering experience.
OR MS with 4+ years of progressive engineering experience.
Working knowledge of National Electrical Code (NFPA 70 and 70E).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with DC/AC voltage up to 13.8 kV.
This posting will be available until November 4th, 2025.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $77,906.40 – $116,859.60 per hour. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.
