Energy Settlement I

Personnel in this job title may be covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. If the position is covered, prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check. Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training. Annual cyber security training is also required.

SUMMARY:

Energy Analysis and Settlements is part of the Wholesale Power and Transmission Accounting organization under the Corporate Controller. Energy Settlement Analysts are responsible for the confirmation, reconciliation, and settlements (including invoicing) of energy transactions related to wholesale bi-lateral power settlements, natural gas and related transportation settlements, transmission sales and purchases, CAISO MRTU market settlements, and CAISO EIM market settlements. A Settlement Analyst is responsible for timely and accurate completion of work that includes invoicing, AP/AR, GL inputs, reporting, and audits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs daily, weekly, and monthly checkout of transactions related to power bi-lateral, natural gas, and/or CAISO MRTU

Prepares gas purchase and pipeline reconciliation and settlements

Prepares Power settlements checkout

Prepares CAISO MRTU settlements

Prepares weekly settlements to accurately reflect for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and General Ledger entries

Responsible for month end General Ledger estimates and eventual actuals as CAISO settles the previous month

Dispute resolution of deal discrepancies

Performs other energy accounting reconciliation and reporting as assigned

Performs regulatory reporting as required

Maintains standardized counter party checkout documentation files with the information to satisfy audit requirements

Responds to inquiries from both internal and external auditors during their audit engagements

COMPETENCIES:

Familiarity with the competitive wholesale electricity marketplace, knowledge of CAISO settlements, including business practices, transaction types, and systems is desired.

Familiarity with the interconnected bulk power generation and transmission system, including delivery points and paths as well as

Understands basic terminology related to the discipline.

Working knowledge of scheduling systems, settlement systems, and financial systems is desired

Working knowledge of the language, terms, and conditions of contracts entered into for the purchase or sale of power.

Excellent analytical skills to properly assess errors and variances to reconcile data and make reasonable decisions to complete settlements.

Strong negotiating skills and the ability to make quick and reasonable decisions.

Advanced interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive business relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with one to three years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively communicate in both writing and verbal

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and other business-related calculations.

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Strong skills in MS Excel spreadsheet software and MS Word processing software.

Working knowledge of energy scheduling systems, settlement systems and basic accounting systems is desired.

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and walk up to 2/3 of the time. Manual dexterity required and the ability to talk and listen. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Energy Settlement II

SUMMARY:

Energy Analysis and Settlements is part of the Wholesale Power and Transmission Accounting Organization under the Corporate Controller. Energy Settlement Analysts are responsible for the confirmation, reconciliation, and settlement (including invoicing) of energy transactions related to wholesale bi-lateral power settlements, natural gas and related transportation settlements, transmission sales and purchases, California Independent System Operator (CAISO) MRTU market settlements, and CAISO Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) market settlements. A Settlement Analyst is responsible for timely and accurate completion of work that includes invoicing, accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP) processing, general ledger (GL) input, reporting, and audit support. The extent of job responsibilities is not limited to the previously mentioned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for supporting daily/weekly/monthly transmission sales, purchase settlements, and the EIM market settlements for the EESC/PRSC

Responsible for gas purchase and pipeline settlements, power bi-lateral settlements, and CAISO MRTU settlements

Prepares and sends invoices for Point-to-Point (PTP) and Network Transmission sales

Performs transmission purchase reconciliation and settlement including payment through the Accounts Payable process

Manages the Network Transmission peak calculation PTP database and system management

Performs EIM daily settlements of 5min, 15min, and hourly market data

Reconciles, confirms, and performs analytics of PRSC market data

Prepares EIM prior period adjustments (PPA)

Prepares EIM charge allocations for PRSC

Responsible for recognition of disputable market settlement variances and ability to resolve CAISO disputes

Processes CAISO invoices timely to ensure weekly settlement deadlines are met

Prepare weekly settlements to accurately reflect for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and General Ledger entries

Responsible for month end General Ledger estimates and eventual actuals as CAISO settles the previous month

Provide system support, working closely with IT and vendors to manage system upgrades, patches, and testing

Responds to inquiries from both internal and external auditors during their audit engagements.

COMPETENCIES:

An ability to follow procedures and demonstrate personal accountability and ownership of the role

Understanding of the CASIO EIM marketplace, including business practices, charge codes and systems

Understanding of the interconnected bulk power generation and transmission system, including delivery points and paths

Understand terminology related to CAISO EIM market and PNM transmission settlements

Ability to interpret both the language and terms and conditions of OATT contracts and CAISO EIM market documents

Excellent analytical skills to properly assess errors and variances to reconcile data to complete settlements and provide reports assessing market outcomes

Strong negotiating skills and the ability to make quick and reasonable decisions
