Fitness Coach (Bilingual) - San Ysidro

Overview
The Fitness Coach is responsible for building positive relationships with members, participants, volunteers, and staff by actively greeting and providing excellent customer service, guidance, and leadership. The Coach assists members and participants with workout equipment and provide basic information to enhance the physical, mental, and spiritual health of each student.

Schedule
Location: Border View Family YMCA
Tuesday and Thursday, 3:15pm - 8:45pm, and Saturdays, 7:45am - 1:15pm
Responsibilities
Monitor workout areas for potential hazards and keep areas organized and tidy to better service members (rerack free weights as needed, put magazines away, etc.)
Be aware of and enforce fitness center (weight room) policies at all times
Keep workout equipment and area clean including wiping down the machines during shift as needed
Design and deliver training/equipment orientation programs that meet individual members needs and facilitate the goals of the participant
Provide basic information/instruction to participants regarding how to properly use the fitness equipment
Represent the YMCA by utilizing tools and information to increase member knowledge of fitness as well as other programs provided through the YMCA (handouts, charts, brochures, etc.)
Be punctual and professional
Refrain from offering injury diagnosis and/or advice
Physical ability to stand and walk for extensive periods of time and participate in or demonstrate exercise/fitness activities
Physical ability to lift at least 20 pounds
Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Fitness background preferred, but not required
Bilingual in English/Spanish required
Experience with variety of strength equipment and free weights and knowledge of current fitness trends
Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and includes subsequent arrest notifications
CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
American Red Cross
American Heart Association
American Safety & Health Institute
YMCA will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act. You do not need to disclose your criminal history or participate in a background check until a conditional job offer is made to you. After making a conditional offer and running a background check, if the YMCA is concerned about conviction that is directly related to the job, you will be given the opportunity to explain the circumstances surrounding the conviction, provide mitigating evidence, or challenge the accuracy of the background report.
