Provides timely court, community and hospital based evaluations for competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility, pursuant to MGL c.123, Sec. 15(a), (b) and Sec. 15(f); aid in sentencing under Sec. 15(e); persons detained on Warrants of Apprehension for commitment of a mentally ill person under Sec. 12(e); commitment for observation and evaluation under Sec. 16(a); Commitment under 16(b/c); hospitalizations of mentally ill prisoners under Sec. 18; determination of mental condition of parties or witnesses under Sec. 19; and evaluations of the commitment of an alcoholic under Sec. 35. Conducts Forensic Risk Assessments as requested by the DMH Forensic Mental Health Services at DMH inpatient facilities or in community settings, including reviewing records and making recommendations concerning inpatient privileges and/or treatment planning. Provides testimony as requested by the court as an expert witness in conjunction with evaluations described above. Provides consultation to the court, probation staff, and community providers involved with forensic clients to inform assessments and dispositional questions. Establishes and maintains relationships with sources, maintains knowledge of DMH priority populations, and participates in meetings and trainings to support job performance. Conducts psychological evaluations and testing using generally accepted instruments when clinically indicated. Completes data collection forms as required by the Department of Mental Health. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of developments and policies in mental health and substance use services as they relate to civil and criminal justice involvement, through training and required continuing education to maintain licensure. Maintains current expertise through CEUs and related training. Provides clinical consultation on problematic cases and reviews/evaluations within the team as requested to support collegiality. Participates on committees, training and supervision as requested. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Considerable knowledge of types and symptoms of mental, emotional and substance abuse disorders; ability to recognize symptoms, interact with individuals in distress, analyze psychological data, and make recommendations; knowledge of behavioral techniques and psychotherapy theories; ability to complete high-quality forensic reports and evaluations. Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to work under time pressure, manage multiple tasks, and produce high-quality reports; designation as forensic psychologist or eligibility within one year; knowledge of human services and criminal justice systems; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; proficient use of Microsoft Office; bilingual or multilingual fluency. Applicants must have a Doctorate in Psychology from an APA-accredited program and at least three years of full-time (or equivalent) professional experience as a Licensed Psychologist in an appropriate setting; at least one year must include supervision over Post-doctoral Psychologists-in-training and/or Psychological Assistants. Current and valid registration as a Psychologist by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Psychology. Depending on assignment, eligibility for Designated Forensic Psychologist and travel requirements may apply. Valid MA Driver’s license or equivalent may be required for travel. Salary and Benefits
