This role focuses on pre-analytical and analytical tasks such as specimen accessioning, nucleic acid extraction, and PCR setup under the supervision of a CLS or Technical Supervisor. MLTs are not permitted to result or interpret data in California but play a vital role in daily lab operations. This position is part time (12–24 hours/week) with a flexible weekday schedule — no weekends or night shifts required (unless desired by the employee).

Perform sample accessioning and labeling

Extract DNA/RNA from wound and nail samples

Document quality control results and reagent tracking

Assist with equipment maintenance and routine calibrations

Maintain compliance with CLIA/COLA documentation

Communicate any test performance issues to a CLS or supervisor

Participate in safety drills, training, and internal QC assessments

Scope Restrictions MLTs may not release test results, perform result interpretation, or operate independently. All high-complexity testing must be supervised on-site by a licensed CLS or Technical Supervisor per California law.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with Bio-Rad CFX96 or equivalent RT-PCR systems

• Experience with LIS/EMR interfaces for laboratory workflows

• Strong pipetting and sterile technique

• Attention to detail and time management in high-throughput settings

Education, Certification/Licensing, and Experience

Associate’s degree or higher in chemical, biological, or clinical lab sciences

Valid California MLT License (required)

1–2 years hands‑on experience in a molecular diagnostics or PCR environment preferred

Familiarity with CLIA, COLA, and HIPAA regulations

Experience working with biological specimens in a regulated clinical lab

Physical Demands Tasks may involve standing at benches, using automated machines, and lifting containers up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Working Conditions Work is conducted in a BSL-2 laboratory with exposure to biohazards, chemicals, automation, and clinical materials. Standard PPE is provided. The noise level is moderate.
