Description The VP of Software Engineering leads a growing team of 5 software engineers (and select partners) to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable products. This position reports to the CTO with a high level of collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team. You’ll set the technical vision, raise the engineering bar, and ensure on-time delivery across cloud services, edge devices, and integrations that power Envera’s community security offerings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, hardware and connectivity experience, and a proven track record of leadership in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Lead & develop the team: Hire, mentor, and organize for velocity; foster a culture of ownership, clarity, and continuous improvement
Deliver product & platform roadmaps: Own execution across software, hardware, and connectivity—prioritizing reliability, security, and scale.
Harden the platform: Establish SLAs/SLOs, security baselines, and incident response; champion observability and performance.
Partner across the business: Work with the CTO, Product, Operations, and Customer Success to align engineering output with customer and business outcomes.
Own the operating model: Define processes, coding standards, and quality practices (code review, CI/CD, test automation).
Manage resources & vendors: Budget responsibly; select and manage third-party tools and partners to accelerate delivery.
.Represent Envera externally: Support recruiting, speak at industry events, and strengthen the engineering brand.
Required Skills & Certifications
Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree a plus
8+ years leading technology teams (people leadership and org design).
Success as a VP/Head of Engineering or similar senior leadership role in a fast-paced environment.
Depth in software development and systems architecture; familiarity with hardware/connectivity/IoT is strongly preferred.
Track record building secure, reliable, and scalable systems; comfort with cloud, APIs/integrations, and networked devices
Proficiency in AWS infrastructure and cloud services, as well as strong development experience with .NET Core, MySQL, and C#.
Experience with iOS and Android build processes, application publication, and OTA mobile updates.
Strong understanding of secure token flows, Cognito authentication, and multi-factor authentication (MFA) enforcement within mobile applications.
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management; data-driven decision-making.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions
Nice to Have
Experience in physical security, access control, video, or managed services
Background with edge/embedded systems, telemetry/observability, and security best practices (authN/Z, encryption, vulnerability management).
Exposure to field service environments and reliability engineering
