QA/QC Construction Director

to lead our company-wide quality assurance and control programs across all divisions—from piping and mechanical to electrical, civil, and beyond. This is a pivotal leadership role for an experienced quality expert who can build, refine, and champion “The Kelly Way” of quality ownership at every level. This isn’t a desk-bound compliance job. We need a hands-on leader who splits time between corporate strategy (75%) and field immersion (25%), mentoring teams, auditing sites, and partnering directly with clients and regulators.

Who We’re Looking For A QA/QC leader and a technical expert with 10 –15+ years in multidisciplinary industrial construction, certified in CWI and ASQ-CQE (with API, NACE, ICC as bonuses), and fluent in ASME, AWS, API, NEC, and building codes. Humble yet decisive, you listen to field feedback, drive continuous improvement, and earn trust through action—not ego. Based in Longview, WA, you’ll support quality across all divisions and locations, reporting to the VP of Industrial Operations.

What You’ll Do As our Corporate QA/QC Director, you’ll establish, implement, and lead companywide QA/QC programs, ensuring every project exceeds client expectations, industry standards, and regulations. This position ensures that our work consistently meets or exceeds client expectations, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. This role requires exceptional technical acumen, strong communication skills, and the ability to lead a team of quality professionals in both the field and corporate environment.

Salary Range:

$145,000 – $175,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. (FLSA exempt)

Program Leadership & Oversight

Maintain and update a companywide QA/QC management system aligned with JH Kelly principles and codes (ASME, AWS, API, NEC, ACI).

Lead and mentor QA/QC teams across all business units, fostering consistent standards, continuous improvement, and measurable performance metrics.

Establish audit systems, quality objectives, and act as the primary contact for clients, third-party inspectors, and regulatory agencies.

Project & Technical Support

Guide project teams from bidding through commissioning with quality planning, ITPs, document control, and technical guidance.

Review/approve quality plans, welding procedures, NDE reports, and turnover docs; conduct site visits to assess compliance and coach corrective actions.

Provide expertise on specs, materials, and code compliance across piping, electrical, mechanical, civil, sheet metal, and structural scopes.

Partner with Safety, Operations, and Engineering to align quality with field execution and client needs.

Training & Continuous Improvement

Develop/deliver QA/QC training for craft, supervision, and management; maintain records and recommend certifications.

Lead root-cause analyses, lessons-learned reviews, and digital tool implementations for better documentation and traceability.

Promote a culture of “Quality Ownership” organization-wide through data-driven metrics and collaborative problem-solving.

What You Bring

Experience:

10 –15+ years in progressive QA/QC roles in mechanical, industrial, and heavy commercial construction; managing multidisciplinary programs (piping, mechanical, electrical, civil, sheet metal, structural).

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).

Skills:

Expert knowledge of ASME Section IX/B31.1/B31.3, AWS D1.1, NEC, ACI; proven team leadership, documentation systems, client/regulator interactions.

Certifications:

Required—CWI, ASQ-CQE. Preferred—API, NACE, ICC.

Mindset:

Collaborative problem-solver who mentors without micromanaging, embraces digital tools, and drives results with humility and accountability.

Physical Requirements

This role transitions between office and field. Office: Sit for extended periods, typing/mouse use, phone communication. Field: Stand/walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs, kneel/crouch/crawl in tight spaces, lift 40 lbs., outdoor weather exposure, PPE required (hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed boots). Travel and non-standard hours as needed. Good vision/hearing essential. Reasonable accommodations available.

Salary Range:
