Overview The Social Enterprise & Nonprofit Law Clinic at Georgetown University Law Center offers pro bono organizational and transactional legal services to social enterprises, nonprofit organizations, worker cooperatives, and select small businesses headquartered in Washington, D.C., working locally or internationally. During their semester in the Clinic and under the supervision of faculty and fellows, law students provide legal advice to their clients on transactional, corporate governance, and strategic business matters, and serve as outside counsel to organizations dedicated to improving their communities or making a lasting social or environmental impact.
Fellowship Details
The two-year fellowship is an ideal position for a transactional lawyer interested in transitioning into legal academia and developing teaching and supervisory abilities in a setting that emphasizes a dual commitment—clinical education of law students and transactional law employed in the public interest.
Fellows will supervise students in representing organizations on transactional, operational, and corporate governance matters.
Fellows will share responsibility for teaching seminar sessions and participate in the administrative and case handling responsibilities of the Clinic.
Fellows participate in a clinical pedagogy seminar and other activities designed to support clinical teaching and legal education.
Faculty support the fellow in pursuing a teaching career post-fellowship. Successful completion results in the award of an LL.M. in Advocacy from Georgetown University.
Start date: July 1, 2026; term ends June 30, 2028.
Stipend: $70,000 (first year) and $75,000 (second year); health and dental benefits; full tuition and fees in LL.M. program.
Loan deferment available; loan repayment assistance may be eligible from law schools.
Responsibilities
Supervise students in representing organizations on transactional, operational, and corporate governance matters.
Share responsibility for teaching seminar sessions.
Share in the administrative and case handling responsibilities of the Clinic.
Participate in a clinical pedagogy seminar and other activities supporting clinical teaching and legal education.
Qualifications
Applicants must have at least 2 years of post‑J.D. legal experience.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in transactional areas such as nonprofit law and tax, community economic development law, corporate law, intellectual property, and real estate or housing law.
Strong commitment to economic justice is encouraged.
Applicants must be admitted or be able to be admitted to the District of Columbia Bar within 6 months of entering the fellowship.
