Base pay range $123,077.00/yr - $400,000.00/yr
Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program.
You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval awards up to $200,000 with an eligibility period of one to five years, determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
United States Citizenship (Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy)
Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine; degree from a VA-approved school for the year of completion
Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia
Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification (ACGME or AOA accredited programs, or other residencies followed by five years of verified U.S. practice)
Residency currently enrolled in an ACGME/AOA accredited program and meeting basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee-based basis only; PRPs are not independent practitioners
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Physical requirements: light lifting under 15 pounds, light carrying under 15 pounds, standing up to 2 hours, walking 1 hour, kneeling 2 hours, repeated bending 2 hours, climbing legs only 1 hour, vision 20/20 one eye, 20/40 the other; hearing aids permitted; ability to use N‑95 mask or PAPR
Cardiologist Duties
Spend at least 80% of time in clinic answering consults for outpatient cardiology care and providing follow‑up care as needed
Perform stress‑test procedures in nuclear medicine and interpret echocardiograms, arrhythmia studies; answer inpatient and ED consults
Provide telephone and curbside consultation as needed and triage consults for appropriateness before scheduling
Provide inpatient, ED, and outpatient care for patients placed on cardiology consult
Order diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x‑rays, ECGs, stress tests, and echocardiograms
Prescribe medications within defined scope and perform medication reconciliation
Carry out health promotion and disease prevention activities; educate patients and families on preventive care
Initiate and expedite requests for intra‑facility and inter‑facility consultation and schedule special tests and studies on a fee basis
Dictate notes for clinic visits and procedures; complete all mandatory training requirements timely
Assist with performance measures for clinical care as indicated by yearly updates; conduct Compensation and Pension exams as requested by VBA
Perform other collateral duties as assigned by supervisor (Chief of Staff or Director)
