POSITION DESCRIPTION DETAILS: The Miscellaneous Metal Sales & Estimator is responsible for driving new business opportunities, managing client relationships, and producing accurate estimates for miscellaneous metal fabrication and installation projects. This role requires a strong technical understanding of steel fabrication and construction, including the ability to read and interpret detailed steel drawings and shop drawings. The position bridges sales, estimating, and project coordination to ensure projects are bid accurately and delivered successfully. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Identify, pursue, and secure new sales opportunities within the commercial, industrial, and construction markets.
Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, architects, engineers, and repeat clients.
Conduct site visits, attend pre-bid meetings, and gather project information for accurate estimating.
Prepare and present professional proposals, bids, and value engineering options.
Follow up on bid submissions and maintain active communication with clients.
Read and interpret structural and miscellaneous steel drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine project scope and requirements.
Accurately quantify materials, labor, and equipment for fabrication and installation of stairs, railings, embeds, platforms, and other miscellaneous metal components.
Prepare detailed takeoffs, pricing, and bid proposals within deadlines.
Coordinate with fabrication, engineering, and project management teams to ensure a smooth project handoff.
Maintain and update cost databases and supplier pricing for consistent estimating accuracy.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE
Must be able to read and interpret steel drawings, shop drawings, and architectural plans.
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in miscellaneous metals, structural steel, or construction estimating.
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field (preferred, not required).
Experience working with commercial roofing, sheet metal, or general contracting environments is a plus.
Proven sales background with the ability to generate and close new business.
Strong knowledge of fabrication and installation methods for structural and miscellaneous metals.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with Bluebeam, Tekla EPM, or FabSuite preferred.
Excellent analytical, mathematical, and communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
Ability to mentor and train others.
SALARY RANGE: $85,000 - $105,000 + Bonus/Commission
