Job Summary The Director of Townsend Center Operations provides leadership and strategic direction for the Operations and Production department that is tasked with the planning and execution of performances and events in the facility.

The ideal candidate will bring operational acumen to the entire organization with a focus on event excellence, fiscal responsibility, safety and security advocacy, exceptional patron and artistic experiences, and creative contributions to organizational growth initiatives.

This role is a member of the leadership team and is responsible for the direction of the following areas: Security and Safety, Technical Services, Event Management, Production, Facilities, and strategic planning for the infrastructure of the facility.

Responsibilities

Oversee the preventative maintenance, repairs, and replacement of general items throughout the facility and all theatrical systems in the two theatres.

Coordinate with facilities designers on improvements to the lobby, restrooms, and support rooms.

Insure scheduling of needed work and normal operations of the building.

Design improvements to the infrastructure of the theatrical systems based on new technology.

Research and obtain specifications and quotes for specific theatrical equipment including lighting fixtures, dimmers and control boards, sound control boards, microphones, cable, and stands, efficient power and safety items for the facility.

Coordinate and manage the actual theatres and all event setups and strike back to original settings within the facility.

Design and execute necessary scenic painting for large‑scale fundraisers.

Set the two theatres and rehearsal rooms for academic use as well as artistic use.

Assist with event scheduling, policy design, and administration.

Process billing functions, charge‑backs, estimates, work orders, equipment research, and scheduling of technicians and consultants.

Act as PCard approver and create budget of individual event cost/profit ratio.

Evaluate all artist rider packets for technical and pre‑show requirements.

Ensure all technical requirements are negotiated or met and necessary items are rented, delivered, and installed correctly.

Coordinate with contract technicians and artists to ensure a successful performance.

Give tours for educational and producing groups including Georgia Presenters, GAE, and GAPTA.

Train faculty, staff, TCPA student assistants, and program participants (both on campus and off‑campus) in life safety (rigging, catwalk, stage safety, usher training), equipment operation (light and sound boards, follow‑spot operations, fly and weight rail systems, set build and movement safety), production techniques and values, and event management.

Provide education and training for regional high school theatre teachers.

Oversee all life safety issues pertaining to employees, students, and patrons within the facilities.

Work directly with Risk Management to keep facility and equipment within OSHA compliance.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre, Music, Art, Audio, Production, Design, Management, Business Creative Design, or other relevant degree.

5+ years theatrical production experience.

3+ years theatrical equipment repair.

Preferred Qualifications

MFA in Technical Theatre or Design.

Or Master in Arts Management and Business.

40‑hour certified training in OSHA life safety and 40‑hour certified training in theatrical rigging.

1+ year or 2 semesters in CAD and drafting.

Spatial awareness and skills in crowd management.

IAVM Venue Management School Graduate.

Electrical repairs for lighting system, audio, and stage lift.

Ability to diagnose problems with lighting systems and rigging repairs.

Compensation $78,000 - $92,000 Annually.

Paid on a monthly basis.

Abilities & Knowledge Position must be able to lift 45 lbs., climb steep stairs, work from heights up to 75 feet, work in confined spaces with limited egress, and work long shifts that include evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Ability to work on all theatrical equipment while in place, work in a body harness, work from a personnel lift, and weld and torch metal.

Must sign for the Director on POs, check requests, personnel forms, etc. if director is absent.
