What this job involves: As a Lead Operating Engineer at JLL, you’ll drive operational excellence across critical building systems while shaping a brighter way for our clients and communities. This role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, overseeing the maintenance, optimization, and performance of complex mechanical, electrical, and building automation systems. You’ll lead a team of skilled engineers and technicians, ensuring seamless facility operations that support our clients’ business objectives. Working collaboratively with property management teams, contractors, and stakeholders, you’ll implement innovative solutions that enhance building performance, energy efficiency, and occupant satisfaction. Your strategic approach to preventive maintenance, emergency response, and system upgrades will be essential in maintaining world‑class facilities that reflect JLL’s commitment to operational excellence.

What your day‑to‑day will look like:

Lead and mentor a team of operating engineers and maintenance technicians, fostering an environment where everyone is empowered to thrive

Oversee daily operations of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and building automation systems across assigned properties

Develop and execute comprehensive preventive maintenance programs to optimize system performance and minimize downtime

Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to coordinate major repairs, installations, and system upgrades

Monitor building performance metrics and energy consumption, implementing innovative solutions to improve efficiency

Respond to emergency situations and critical system failures, ensuring rapid resolution and minimal business impact

Prepare detailed reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and capital improvement recommendations

Required qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum 7‑10 years of experience in building operations, facilities management, or related engineering roles

Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems

Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and coordinating complex projects

Professional certifications such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Operator Certification (BOC), or equivalent preferred

Excellent problem‑solving abilities and capacity to make critical decisions under pressure

Strong communication skills with ability to interact effectively with clients, vendors, and diverse stakeholders

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field

Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building automation platforms

Knowledge of sustainability practices, LEED certification processes, and energy efficiency programs

Previous experience in commercial real estate or property management environments

Project management certification (PMP) or equivalent credential

Familiarity with local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental compliance requirements
