What You’ll Do
Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for engineering projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses.
Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
Review and update cost estimates as project scope changes or new information becomes available.
Coordinate and manage engineering projects from initiation to completion, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to define project scopes, timelines, and deliverables and track associated costs.
Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
Track project expenditures and compare them against budget estimates, identifying variances and proposing adjustments.
Prepare and present financial reports to stakeholders, including cost breakdowns and budget forecasts.
Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including cost estimates, budget reports, and project schedules.
Prepare regular status reports on project progress, cost performance, and budget compliance.
Ensure all documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
Work with vendors and suppliers to obtain quotes and negotiate pricing for materials and services.
Evaluate vendor proposals and select the most cost-effective options that meet project requirements.
Maintain relationships with project schedulers, key vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and services.
Identify potential cost impacting risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize their impact.
Monitor and manage cost-related risks, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements in project estimation and management.
Implement best practices for cost estimation and project coordination.
What We’re Looking For
Strong hands‑on experience on various cost estimation techniques and management skills in a chemical/petrochemical industry environment.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams leading the cost estimation and tracking.
Ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders and work in a team environment.
Ability to look for deviations from the original cost estimate and take mitigation measures as required, while keeping up all the necessary documentation.
Ability to understand industry best practices in cost estimation and project scheduling and adopt them.
Stay updated on industry trends, standards, and advancements in cost estimation methodologies.
Ability to coach and mentor junior engineers and new comers on cost estimation process and techniques.
Attention to details and ability to think through in providing service to stakeholders from front end planning to project close out.
Communicate with the diverse and cross functional stakeholder community.
Work with a global team in remote places and collaborate as needed.
The ability to keep up the necessary analytical skills on pace with the industry developments and lead by example.
Ability to juggle on multiple projects and assignments without losing focus on the priority.
Skills that Make a Difference
Associate or Bachelor’s in Engineering Project Management or equivalent degree in related field and/or with demonstrated equivalent industry experience in the area of project cost estimation.
5+ years of hands‑on working experience as project estimator/coordinator, cost controller in a similar role within engineering environment. Experience in refining/chemical/ specialty chemical processing and facilities.
Experience working within cross‑functional project teams on multiple projects, with greater responsibility technically and/or in higher value projects.
Experience with project management software (e.g., Icarus, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Asana, Trello). Well-developed organizational and time management skills, ability to multitask and coordinate effectively across an engineering team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and working knowledge of engineering software, databases, awareness of industry‑specific standards and regulations.
