Position Information
Long‑Term Seasonal Plumber & Steamfitter II (South): 11/16/25 – 3/21/26 (18 weeks) @ 40 hrs. Contact supervisor for schedule. 2 positions.
The Plumber & Steamfitter II (South) will report to Massasoit State Park, 1361 Middleboro Rd., East Taunton.
Note:
If selected and working less than 90 days, the position will automatically revert to a short‑term position; salary will be discussed during interview.
About the Department The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) stewards 450,000 acres of state parks, forests, greenways, historic sites, and watersheds. It also oversees swimming pools, wading pools, and spray decks.
The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EOEEA) works with residents, energy consumers, power companies, and farmers to balance environmental protection and economic prosperity.
Position Summary The DCR seeks a qualified applicant for the position of Long‑Term Seasonal Plumber & Steamfitter II. The role includes troubleshooting plumbing problems, repairing plumbing issues, consulting with contractors, and ensuring compliance with Massachusetts codes.
General Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise, install, repair, maintain, and alter steam and plumbing systems, sanitary fixtures, sprinkler systems, heating units, and steam tables using power tools, sewer cleaning machines, hand tools, and plumbing equipment.
Pack joints, valves, and pumps; cut and thread pipes.
Caulk and pack lead joints; replace seals in water closets.
Unplug sinks, toilets, and drains.
Use statewide e‑portal to apply for plumbing permits.
Insulate heat‑tracing wires and piping to ensure proper operation.
Schedule installation, maintenance, and repair work in coordination with regional directors, district managers, and staff.
Determine stock and material needs for assignments.
Complete work orders promptly and prepare work reports.
Perform related duties such as erecting scaffolding, rigging, ladder use, metal fabrication, tool sharpening, cleaning, and training.
Assist with other related work as required.
Preferred Qualifications
General knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, and masonry.
Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and instructions.
Estimate length of time, cost of materials, and manpower using current market rates.
Supervise assigned staff, plan work, and assess resources.
Handle complaints and take corrective action.
Preferred License and Certifications
Current and valid Massachusetts Class D motor‑vehicle operator’s license.
Additional training may be required (confined space, ladder safety, hazardous materials).
Massachusetts Plumbing License, Journeyman or Master required.
Qualifications First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: At least one year of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience in plumbing and steamfitting.
Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Plumber’s license issued by the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters.
Division of Design and Engineering DCR’s Division of Design & Engineering collaborates with state agencies and communities to design, build, and maintain public infrastructure, including dams, seawalls, parkways, roads, sidewalks, trails, and stormwater systems.
