Responsibilities
Ensure accurate financial reporting by overseeing the preparation and submission of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and IFRS, and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
Maintain regulatory compliance with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and other applicable bodies.
Develop and sustain robust internal control systems to safeguard assets and ensure integrity of financial reporting; conduct regular audits and assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
Provide detailed financial analysis, forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses to senior management and the board of directors.
Coordinate with external auditors for the annual audit process, addressing findings and maintaining strong auditor relationships.
Identify and manage financial risks related to compliance and reporting, devising strategies to mitigate them.
Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization.
Communicate financial reporting and compliance matters to internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, investors, and senior management.
Continuously improve accounting processes and systems, leveraging technology to streamline operations and enhance accuracy.
Oversee financial system maintenance and upgrades in collaboration with IT and other departments.
Reconcile accounts, address discrepancies promptly, and prepare accurate financial reports for regulatory compliance.
Support budget management by preparing and monitoring the company budget, providing analysis for decision‑making.
Lead and develop the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high‑performance culture.
Qualifications
15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior accounting leadership role at a publicly traded company.
Experience in the insurance or financial services industry is essential.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; an MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
Extensive experience with SEC reporting requirements, Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) compliance, and complex GAAP accounting issues.
Proven ability to lead and scale an accounting function in a dynamic, high‑growth environment.
Strong knowledge of financial and accounting software, systems, and data analytics.
Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and external auditors.
