Activities Director
STGi is seeking qualified candidates for this position in connection with an active Request for Proposals (RFP). Hiring for this role is contingent upon STGi's selection as the successful awardee.
Essential Functions
Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct activities programs of this facility to meet the individual and person-centered needs of the residents.
Develop recreational activity opportunities appropriate to the resident population and individualized to resident needs.
Coordinate community outreach and seek recreational partnerships that represent resident interests.
Coordinate with transportation services for activity outings as necessary to meet resident needs.
Keep abreast of current federal and state regulations and professional standards of practice; recommend changes in facility policies and procedures to the Administrator.
Help develop written plans of care for each resident, identifying problems/needs and setting goals.
Ensure all department personnel attend mandatory in-service training programs (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, abuse prevention).
Required Experience and Education
Minimum two years of college; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional licensed by the state; eligible for certification as a recreation specialist or activities professional.
Minimum two years experience in a social or recreation program within last five years, one full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting.
Qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; or completed a training course approved by the State of South Carolina.
Required Skills
Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Knowledge of regulations governing activity services in nursing care facilities.
Demonstrated ability to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of residents.
Tactful handling of personnel, residents, family, visitors, government agencies and public.
Leadership ability and willingness to supervise other personnel.
Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm for handling residents at various maturity levels.
Ability to seek and incorporate new methods and principles into existing activities.
Member in good standing in NASW and ACSW; able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
Work in office areas and throughout facility premises.
Subject to frequent interruptions.
Involved with residents, family, personnel, and visitors under all conditions.
Works beyond normal hours, weekends, holidays; on call 24/7.
