Job Description Position Summary: As an Associate Director within the INDIGO | AI Innovation Lab, you will lead the development and scaling of data science capabilities while acting as a technical expert and mentor within the team. You will take ownership of key projects and work closely with senior stakeholders to deliver data science-driven solutions that align with enterprise goals. This is a hands‑on role where you develop and implement cutting‑edge data science solutions, build and maintain digital products, and enable the democratization of data through scalable tools and best practices. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, excellent data science and visualization skills, good communication skills, an exceptional sense of ownership and accountability, and experience in the pharmaceutical or health‑related industry. The role is based in Waltham and requires a hybrid office schedule.

Responsibilities

Lead the development of data science capabilities: design and build advanced digital tools, frameworks, and platforms that drive organizational efficiency.

Lead and manage high‑impact data science initiatives across the organization, including scope, timelines, and resource needs.

Evangelize and contribute to scaled adoption of ML and AI capabilities across the organization.

Stay updated with advancements in data science and integrate emerging technologies into solutions where applicable.

Develop and deploy complex analytical models and insights to inform strategic decisions.

Implement data science solutions including GenAI chatbot applications, predictive models, and NLP.

Scale proof‑of‑concept data science ideas and products into maintainable production software services, leveraging best practices for production‑ready code development and DevOps.

Track and report progress on data science initiatives while accounting for shifting priorities and timelines to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

Champion FAIR principles and guide the organization in their application to ensure long‑term data usability and accessibility.

Act as a key partner to cross‑functional teams, providing technical leadership in the design and implementation of digital products.

Act as a trusted advisor, educating stakeholders on INDIGO value offerings and application of team capabilities to unique business needs.

Communicate insights and recommendations to senior leadership.

Lead the maintenance, enhancement, and governance of digital products under the team’s ownership.

Take functional ownership of data science tools and products, ensuring their reliability, scalability, and continued business relevance.

Mentor junior team members and foster a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.

Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field (Ph.D. preferred).

Experience: 5‑7 years of data science experience with a proven track record of delivering impactful solutions.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in production programming with Python and SQL; comfortable with pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn, and PyTorch; experience with graph databases (Neo4J) is a plus; hands‑on experience with Tableau, ReactJS/D3; familiarity with AWS, Dataiku, Snowflake, Spark; strong knowledge of ML algorithms, LLMs, statistical analysis, end‑to‑end MLOps; experience with last‑mile data engineering and data governance best practices (DBT preferred); familiarity with FAIR principles.

Core Competencies: Ability to design and implement high‑quality end‑to‑end data science and GenAI solutions from conception through value delivery; strong problem‑solving and analytical skills; leadership and project management experience; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills handling multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry; familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards for data use in healthcare or life sciences (HIPAA); exposure to latest GenAI innovation and graph analytics; ability to work a hybrid weekly office schedule in Waltham.
