Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable and delivered on time. Life Cycle Engineering consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices and our customers. Our Life Cycle Engineering disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation. Our focus area is product support, including the following disciplines: Reliability, System Safety, and Supportability.
What You Will Do This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Principal System Safety Engineer to join us on the Land & Air Defense Systems (LADS) System Safety team in Woburn, MA. As a Principal System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities include:
Analysis of engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance.
Work with system test and tactical operation and maintenance procedures to ensure the proper administrative system safety controls are in place.
Collaborate with integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal.
Perform System Safety Program or Design analyses and document results (Preliminary Hazards List/Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, Hazard Tracking Logs, Functional Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Safety Assessment Report).
Monitor program technical execution and interface with stakeholders (e.g., customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors).
Prepare Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for customer approval.
Brief safety of the program at technical reviews and approve process (e.g., SSWGs, SSSTRP, Tech Assists, and Mission Readiness Assessments).
Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards.
Prepare internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program.
Collaborate across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design.
This position is posted as ON SITE and is based at either Raytheon’s Woburn, MA location or Raytheon’s Huntsville, AL location.
Qualifications You Must Have
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM). An advanced degree may account for additional years of experience.
Experience with Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical or Firmware Engineering.
Experience with proposals or BOE (Basis of Estimates).
Experience mentoring junior level safety engineers.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required.
Qualifications We Prefer
Overall DoD System Safety Program experience and experience in command and control systems and/or weapon combat systems.
Experience with safety standards (MIL-STD-882, AMCOM 385-17, JSSSEH, AOP-52, AR 385-10, MIL-HDBK-454, MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-1474, MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-1425).
Experience developing/coordinating all products required to obtain safety review board approvals needed to field a weapon system.
Experience producing System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), and Hazard Tracking Logs (HTL).
Experience conducting System Safety Working Groups (SSWG) and managing a safety program.
Experience ensuring system safety processes and requirements are properly planned, executed and documented during the entire life cycle of weapon systems.
Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development.
