Manufacturing Engineering Manager – Project Kuiper
Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world. As a Manufacturing Engineering Manager at Project Kuiper, you will lead a team directly responsible for building, testing, qualifying and producing next‑generation spacecraft. You will utilize innovative solutions and technology to solve difficult manufacturing and engineering problems on a daily basis, at both a systems and specialized level. You will be a critical lynchpin between the production, development, tooling, supply chain and quality teams, and lead production on the assembly line as well as new production introductions. You will provide vital manufacturability input to the design engineering teams for both new and existing hardware. Finally, you will be responsible for standing up new processes, equipment, and assembly lines to support Kuiper’s build ramp, making data‑driven decisions at each step in the process.
Key Job Responsibilities
Use knowledge and experience to understand, collaborate, and integrate complex inputs from multiple disciplines (Electrical, RF, Optics, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Tooling, Assembly, and Test) to guide the team and arrive at a viable approach for an optical system.
Drive manufacturing process improvements by reading test results and implementing SPC.
Interface with facilities personnel on site development and all utility requirements definition.
AIT takt time & cost optimization planning.
Manage a team of manufacturing engineers across multiple shifts, with flexibility in attendance and support on a recurring basis for shifts from 4 pm to midnight, including weekend days.
Export Control Requirement Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A Day in the Life This role will require a thorough understanding of precision manufacturing processes. You will answer for manufacturing engineers supporting the production environment. This is a leadership role for a highly collaborative individual that combines superb technical and analytical capabilities to optimize optic assembly procedures for production and meet cross‑discipline requirements.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing/Optical/Electrical) or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
3+ years of experience in Cleanroom operation and techniques.
3+ years of experience managing engineers.
5+ years of experience in the production of complex opto‑mechanical systems used in industrial, automotive, defense, space or medical applications.
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of Engineering Manufacturing manager experience.
Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical, Electronics or Optical field.

Compensation and Benefits The base pay for this position ranges from $135,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $234,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Depending on the position offered, equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
