Overview

At K&L Gates, we are looking for smart, imaginative and hard-working people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and ideas to join us. This position is for a Principal, Legal Recruiter Finance to manage all aspects of lateral associate recruitment and collaborate with the law student recruitment team for the Finance practice area across all U.S. offices.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Practice Area Leaders, Practice Group Coordinators, Office Managing Partners, Finance Practice Operations Director and others to develop and implement strategic legal recruiting plans to attract top talent.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders to understand and strategically identify legal talent needs within the Finance practice area.
  • Manage advertising of open positions, draft and distribute job descriptions on the Firm’s website and external boards, and coordinate with targeted search firms.
  • Review resumes with PALs and PGCs to select candidates for interviews; manage follow-up communications with candidates or search firms to provide a differentiated experience.
  • Oversee applicant data tracking and leverage hiring analytics to establish Finance recruitment best practices.
  • Engage internal and external networks to identify and engage top-tier candidates and contribute to recruiting strategy, including pipeline-building and target schools/interview programs.
  • Oversee the lateral associate offer process, orientation, onboarding and integration for Finance hires.
  • Collaborate with Professional Development and practice leaders to identify Finance-specific training opportunities.
  • Coordinate with Student Recruiting Team and local leadership to determine Finance summer associate class size and recruiting strategy.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; JD or legal background is advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years of recruiting experience (required), preferably in a law firm or law school environment; at least 3 years recruiting lawyers in the Finance space (preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of legal talent acquisition strategies and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Professional and ethical demeanor with strong judgment, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure with demanding deadlines; creative, growth-oriented and solutions-focused.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and MS Office (Excel, Outlook) skills; proficiency with applicant tracking systems and recruitment tools.

  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with people at all levels of management.
  • Flexibility to accommodate long hours and periodic weekend work; comfortable with adjusting strategies as needed.
  • Desk-type role requiring a mix of sedentary and standing activities.

Compensation

Salary: $111,000 - $216,000. The compensation will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on experience, expertise, business needs, and market factors.
