Principal Network Developer 4 (NRB)

The Network Region Build (NRB) team is responsible for deploying greenfield infrastructure, establishing network connectivity for new Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) regions, and enabling compute connectivity for child sites. This includes building and managing data center fabrics, edge networks, backbone, fiber metro networks, and supporting multi-cloud initiatives. NRB provides 24x7 operational support during build phases and oversees network and server rack adds, decommissions, and capacity expansions. The team also drives automation, process improvements, and tool development in collaboration with Network Automation to enhance efficiency.
Responsibilities
Lead network lifecycle management programs by defining high-level objectives and delivery procedures.
Organize project technical milestones and supporting tasks; may act as project technical lead coordinating two or three engineers.
Advise project/program manager and coordinate with immediate and skip-level leadership; collaborate across teams within the same org.
Serve as a technical SME in cross-functional activities; hold technical responsibility for moderately complex projects, including requirements, specifications, and documentation.
Decompose high-level architectures into detailed designs; lead multiple engineers in developing network solutions with complex interactions.
Work with supporting service teams to ensure solutions are supported by monitoring and automation systems.
Act as Tier 2 or specialized escalation point for network events and provide break-fix support for large-scale events.
Drive root-cause analysis, contribute to system monitoring, and participate in network automation design and delivery projects.
Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior staff; collaborate with vendor engineering and account managers to address issues.
Participate in RFQ/RFP development and adopt new vendor hardware as needed; maintain active communication with product teams and networking leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred; 8+ years of related experience.
Experience in large ISP or cloud provider environment.
Exposure to commodity Ethernet hardware (Broadcom/Mellanox); protocol experience with BGP/OSPF/IS-IS, TCP, IPv4, IPv6, DNS, DHCP, MPLS.
Experience with networking protocols such as TCP/IP, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and SSL; Internet peering and inter-domain networking.
Experience with scripting or automation and data center design; Python preferred; ability to demonstrate scripting or programming knowledge.
Experience with high-level software design/development; automation systems, framework design/use and deployment.
Experience with network modeling and programming – YANG, OpenConfig, NETCONF.
Knowledge of network security design, performance characterization and testing; data flow and telemetry design, deployment, and operation.
Excellent judgment, communication skills, and ability to influence product roadmap direction.
Ability to work under limited supervision; capable of technical coaching and mentoring.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a large ISP or cloud provider environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of Python for automation and data center design.
Benefits and Compensation US: Hiring range in USD from $109,200 - $223,400 per year. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
