Position Summary The Quality Assurance Manager is a key member of the manufacturing site leadership team that provides leadership at the site for development, implementation, and administration of the Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions to ensure safety, integrity, and conformance with regulatory, corporate, site, and customer requirements. This position works in collaboration with plant and Balchem leadership to formulate and execute a strategic quality plan for the business and integrates quality priorities into the operational excellence process.
Essential Functions
Maintaining customer quality satisfaction through the implementation and use of programs to control raw materials, in‑process materials, production process, environmental conditions and finished products.
Empowering and developing their team and cross‑functional teams; performing evaluations and creating development or training plans for team members and managing employee relations.
Ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations such as FDA, EPA, OSHA and other state and federal agencies.
Ensuring compliance with contracted third‑party certifications such as GFSI, Kosher, Halal, RSPO or others as needed.
Conducting or coordinating Customer, Vendor and/or third‑party audits and regulatory inspections; executing plans that drive operational excellence for the operation.
Preparing and overseeing customer site visits and audits.
Interacting with other Quality Managers, corporate leadership, and ensuring timely issue escalation.
Leading the quality team in commercial product onboarding and trial reviews, specification creation, formula and label reviews, and inspection plans for raw materials, in‑process materials and finished materials.
Managing departmental staffing, management commitment and review process, budget & expenses and capital projects.
Partnering with site leaders and cross‑functional partners for goal setting, decision‑making alignment, and training and development needs.
Supporting Supply Chain, Learning and Development, and Commercialization functions as needed.
People
Responsible for development and performance of the site quality team and ensuring training programs are in place for cross‑functional teams.
Builds strong cross‑functional relationships and demonstrates ability to influence and execute site strategy.
Develops a culture that drives quality improvements and efficiently interfaces with operational excellence processes.
Communicates effectively with internal and external customers.
Escalates and communicates food safety, quality, and financial issues in a timely manner.
Cascades goals using tools such as SMART goals and aligns with teams on standard work.
Motivates and builds team strength.
Make determinations and decisions on performance and pay for team members.
Systems
Responsible for effective application of site Product Safety, Product Quality and prerequisite systems.
Root cause analysis and elimination of causes or implementation of engineering or system improvements to provide robust prevention.
Execution of internal audit program ensuring systems reduce risk and corrective actions are completed.
Drives priorities that have the largest positive impact on key performance indicators and metrics such as compliance performance, first‑pass quality, complaints, dispositions, inventory health, customer responsiveness, CAPA closure and effectiveness, and environmental & sanitation performance.
Ensures that response to customers, inspectors and auditors are professional, timely, and in scope.
Collaborates with R&D, Production and commercial teams for new product and process launches, quantifying probability of success and communicating risks.
Interfaces with operational excellence programs to maximize effectiveness.
Provides support and aid in preparation for customer visits and external audits.
Knowledge & Experience
Operated in an FDA‑regulated environment, ideally food or dietary supplement.
Assesses and mitigates food safety, regulatory, and cost risks.
Applies sanitation principles effectively.
Applies Statistical Process Control (SPC) for process evaluation and improvements.
Effective project manager with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
5+ years of functional leadership experience.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
Project Management & Change Management experience.
5+ years of experience in food, supplement, or related industry.
Familiarity with FDA.
GFSI scheme (e.g., SQF, BRC).
Certification focused on Quality and Food Safety for Supply Chain requirement: PCQI or HACCP.
Ability to lift 50 lbs; required to stand, walk, sit, and reach.
