About Meridian PCS Meridian is a PreK-8th grade school located in Washington DC’s vibrant U Street Corridor. Our mission is to inspire a passion for learning in our students and help them build their self‑confidence and self‑respect through academic achievement.
Our 650+ students are a diverse mix of African‑American, Latino, Asian, and White students. Almost 30% of our students are English language learners, and we have one of the largest Hispanic populations among DC charter schools. The middle school campus serves nearly 200 students in grades 6‑8 and is situated in Columbia Heights.
Meridian is committed to serving families from local communities; one‑third of our students live within a half mile of the school. Position Details The MLL Teacher will work with Middle School students for the 2025‑26 school year. This is a full‑time, salaried, 10‑month position. MLL Teachers at Meridian are responsible for the following:
Collaborating with colleagues to develop and deliver specialized instruction designed to help students meet grade‑level standards and achieve personal learning goals.
Supporting MLL students’ English language development and classroom instructional needs.
Partnering with instructional leadership, coaches, and administration to ensure ELL students receive language support and academic assistance.
Supporting the oversight and delivery of ACCESS administration.
Tracking and monitoring assessment results to refine teaching practices and design differentiated lesson plans.
Participating in MLL student transition meetings for those ready to transition out of MLL services.
Initiating and maintaining consistent communication, and developing constructive partnerships with MLL families.
Communicating with parents about student progress and recommending ways families can support students at home.
Establishing and implementing effective classroom management procedures, and maintaining a productive, safe, and focused learning environment.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (required; Master’s preferred).
Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred.
Two or more years of teaching experience in an elementary or middle school in an urban setting preferred.
Experience as an MLL Teacher, or ELA/Literacy Teacher.
Experience with co‑teaching models preferred.
Understanding of WIDA standards and/or UDL strategies preferred.
