CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills (CSRWH) is a 150‑bed hospital serving San Antonio’s fastest growing area.
The campus offers specialized orthopedic, surgical, ICU, women’s services, a newborn nursery, comprehensive cardiovascular care, a vascular lab, sleep center, emergency services, a Weight Loss Institute, wound care, rehabilitation, and an Outpatient Imaging Center.
The hospital also hosts the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Program and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Health Center.
Summary This position meets the CLIA minimum qualifications for a Laboratory General Supervisor.
In partnership with the Laboratory Director and/or Manager, the Supervisor coordinates and manages day‑to‑day operations of designated sections and shifts.
The Supervisor develops and implements procedures, maintains quality control, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports staff performance and development.
Responsibilities
Provides daily supervision of high, moderate, and waived‑complexity test performance.
Anticipates and resolves technical issues via on‑site, telephonic, or electronic consultation.
Ensures compliance with state, federal, and hospital policies (CLIA, TJC, CAP, AABB, etc.).
Plans, organizes, and coordinates work activities for assigned sections and shifts.
Maintains accurate attendance and time‑keeping records.
Aids the Director/Manager in laboratory budgeting and variance reporting.
Conducts personnel performance reviews and assists in merit‑based compensation discussions.
Develops, implements, and updates procedural manuals for all assigned tests.
Enforces safety policies and procedures.
Researches, evaluates, and implements new methodologies and instrumentation.
Manages quality control and functional verification records for all tests.
Monitors test results, ensuring performance specifications are met and corrective actions are taken.
Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment, coordinating with Biomedical Engineering.
Orders and inventories supplies and reagents to maintain adequate stock.
Trains new technologists and technicians, maintaining orientation records.
Analyzes data and reports on laboratory performance improvement activities.
Conducts in‑service education for staff.
Provides input on personnel decisions (hire, fire, transfer, disciplinary actions).
Administers skills review, competency assessment, and documentation.
Participates in proficiency testing surveys and maintains records.
Attends meetings to discuss policy, equipment, and staffing changes.
Uses the Laboratory Information System and related applications.
Performs all patient‑care responsibilities in a manner consistent with CHRISTUS Health core values.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Education and Skills
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience
Five (5) years of experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Technician.
Five (5) years of full‑time primary experience in the specific section of responsibility.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
Active certification (or eligibility) for MT (ASCP), CLS (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), MT (AMT), CLS (NCA/ASCP), or MT (AAB).
Work Schedule 5 days – 8 hours
