C-130 Aircraft Mechanic CBA - VX-20

The Aircraft Mechanic troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems to ensure aircraft remains in safe operating condition. Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty. Receives technical guidance from supervisor or higher-level technician, and may occasionally lead teams through more complex aircraft tasks.
Responsibilities
Maintains and repairs aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
Replace or repair worn or damaged components (e.g., carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, engine mounted gearboxes, compressor bleed valves) using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; remove engine from aircraft using hoist or forklift, disassemble and inspect parts for wear or defects, repair or replace defective parts, and reassemble and install engine in aircraft.
Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories; perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections; service aircraft by flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions; restore equipment condition and operation as required.
Utilize comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting blueprints or manufacturers’ manuals.
Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft; verify work was performed satisfactorily; may service engines and airframe components at line stations; may specialize in structural, precision, or functional spare parts and assemblies and engine repair.
May make entries in aircraft logs and records; prioritize workload to maintain project schedules.
Comply with all current sections of COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series applicable to aircraft maintenance and ALSS; working knowledge of technical publications, NAMP and NALCOMIS aircraft maintenance applications.

Knowledge & Skills
Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts.
Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
Basic knowledge of electrical theory.
Thorough knowledge of aircraft tools and test equipment (torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and shears).
Working knowledge of technical publications.
Ability to prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
Working knowledge of corrosion control techniques and procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
Working knowledge of aircraft sub-systems, maintenance parameters, systems operation, limitations, and technical orders.
Possess a valid US state driver’s license; ability to read, write, speak and understand English; ability to obtain a Government flight line driver’s license and a secret security clearance.
Experience & Education
High School degree or equivalent required.
Completion of specialized courses in aircraft structural repair is required.
Two to four years of actual and recent experience in repair, modification, maintenance and overhaul of the C-130 aircraft; four years preferred.
Physical Requirements / Working Environment
May work in an aircraft maintenance hangar or outdoors; respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather.
May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engines; may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving parts.
Must be able to walk, stand, climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands; crouch, crawl, grasp, bend, and reach; lift up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools; distinguish color and judge depth.
May operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, APU, etc.
