Operating Engineer S2 - Critical Environments

Work Schedule:
8‑hour shifts; may require weekends.
Job Summary Critical Facilities Data Center Technician responsible for all MEP‑related functions for critical facilities maintenance, including mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), electrical (lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switch gears) and plumbing (install and repair piping, valves, filters, hot water systems and associated controls).
Responsibilities
Emergency backup and hot water systems.
Analyze operation of various systems, determine cause of problems/malfunctions and take corrective action.
Adjust and maintain refrigeration, chilled water and air conditioning equipment; boilers, ventilating and hot water heaters; pumps, valves, piping and filters.
Install and repair plumbing/piping/tubing; replace seals on pumps.
Fire/life safety duties.
Wire single and three‑phase motors, run conduit, pull wiring to machinery and motors, replace bearings on motors.
Install and rebuild pumps and motors; install and rebuild air compressors and heat exchangers.
Assist other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance of building and equipment.
Install, repair, and maintain electrical controls, switching and motor controls; operate and maintain critical equipment including UPS systems, generators, chillers and critical air conditioning units.
Monitor operation, repair, and maintain refrigeration, water cooling and air conditioning equipment; boilers, heating, ventilating and hot water equipment; pumps, valves, piping and filters; record readings; report any problems/malfunctions.
Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
Oversee activities of contractors working within the building as representatives of the building or tenants.
Keep records of building rounds and readings, engineering logs and data sheets.
Advance training and notification to contractors about building's critical functions and work to perform, including incident contact response list.
Understand and comply with emergency escalation procedures.
Ensure CWA (Critical Facility Work Authorization) is understood among staff, engineers, tenants and contractors.
Ensure strict adherence to Critical Awareness Process, Technical Bulletins, engineering guidelines, processes and procedures.
Perform additional duties as requested by management.
Qualifications
Preferred hands‑on experience in a data center/critical facility, including UPS systems, emergency generators and switch‑gears.
Ability to work independently or in a small group setting.
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent preferred.
Certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs (or within 90 days of employment) or Licensed Journeyman Electrician familiar with medium‑voltage industrial design builds.
Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel.
Demonstrated verbal/written communication skills.
Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service.
