Tesla
Water & Wastewater Process Design Engineer
Tesla's Factory Design Engineering is looking for a Water and Wastewater Process Design Engineer to join our Process Design team in Austin, TX. The process design team strives to create the factory of the future by bringing conceptual designs to life and producing leading-edge, detailed designs of chemical and utility systems that are fully integrated with manufacturing processes. As a Wastewater Process Engineer, you will play a critical role in our efforts to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.
What You'll Do
Apply engineering fundamentals and a broad set of process engineering tools to solve technical problems and create detailed designs for water and wastewater systems (industrial wastewater, high purity water, water reuse) and related support facilities and chemical systems.
Provide process engineering support to operations to resolve process bottlenecks and other long-standing issues. Participate in field construction and commissioning activities by serving as the point of contact for technical questions and real-time issue resolution.
Provide technical expertise to the engineering/design team and other groups within the organization as a subject matter expert (SME); mentor other engineers and team members.
Lead projects from front-end through detailed design and generate deliverables including: scoping documents; Basis of Design reports; PFDs; P&IDs; layouts; and 3D piping design.
Generate process engineering calculations and documentation, including Aspen simulations where required, pressure relief valve calculations, Pipe-Flo modeling, and pressure drop analysis.
Develop Sequence of Operations / Controls Narrative documents and cause & effect matrices.
Review process design work performed by others on the Process Team to ensure high quality, including P&IDs, plan drawings, single line diagrams, and updated master piping and equipment specifications.
What You'll Bring
Degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
7+ years of experience in water and wastewater infrastructure design and process improvement within high-tech industries (e.g., semiconductor, specialty chemical, solar, battery). EPC project experience is highly desired. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas or ability to obtain licensure within 6 months is preferred.
Experience with lime softening, ultrafiltration, ion exchange, reverse osmosis, or other advanced water reuse system design is highly desired.
Subject matter expertise related to OSHA requirements for hazardous systems and maintenance access, ASME pressure vessel and piping codes, NFPA codes (e.g., NFPA 30 and 55), and relevant building codes; working knowledge of permitting wastewater systems.
Ability to lead or participate in reactive chemical process hazard evaluations and HAZOP reviews of PSM-covered and other hazardous chemical systems.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, and Pipe-Flo. Revit experience is a plus but not required.
Ability to adapt, multi-task, and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with evolving design requirements; strong communication with peers, stakeholders, and executives.
Benefits
Competitive pay and benefits from day 1 of hire, including health, dental, vision, and flexible spending accounts.
