Cass Regional Medical Center is seeking a
Full-time registered MRI technologist
to join our team in Harrisonville, MO. We are located just 20 minutes south of Kansas City on interstate 49. We are a 35-bed critical access facility with all the latest technologies in Imaging. We are a level 3 Trauma Center and Stroke Center. We are accredited by the American College of Radiology in CT, MRI, US and NM.
Primary Purpose:
To assist in patient care by providing high quality imaging services efficiently. Under the direction of the Medical Imaging Director and Radiologist, safely performs diagnostic MRI procedures within the guidelines established in the policies and procedures manual. Works in accordance with JCAHO, state and other regulatory or accreditation agencies.
Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing recommendations regarding policies and procedures associated with the job's purpose and essential responsibilities.
Routine Decision Making:
Determine if image quality is diagnostic; screen patients for ferrous foreign objects and non-compatible implants, verify contrast dosage while working under approved protocols and supervision of the Radiologist; reviews physician orders vs diagnosis/reason for exam to ensure patients receive the right test at the right time.
Required Knowledge:
MRI equipment and safety screening; patient care; patient satisfaction; sterile technique; equipment function; exam positioning and quality control.
Required Skills and Ability:
Ability to effectively, efficiently and safely use MRI equipment, including RIS, EMR, PACS; adjust parameter selections depending on motion, artifact or age; troubleshooting.
Unusual Working Conditions:
Risk of exposure to loud noise, magnetic field, heavy lifting, air and blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and potential exposure to hazardous drugs and chemicals.
Education and Certification/ Registration Required for the Position:
Graduate of an accredited program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program, American Medical Association or other accrediting agency; American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) certification and BLS required. MRI registry or registry eligible with completion of examination within 6 months of hire to maintain employment. Minimum of one-year experience preferred in MRI and/or completion of accredited MRI program with clinical experience.
Age Specific Competencies:
Provides care for birth to pediatric (birth-2 yrs.), pediatric/child patients between (2 yrs-12 yrs); adolescent patients between 12 to 18 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks (90%)
Identifies patient using two patient identifiers as identified in the facility directive.
Provides high level of customer service using AIDET and Communicating Empathy strategies with every patient/customer 100% of the time. Makes patient satisfaction a top priority.
Reviews physician order for accuracy and validity prior to the start of every procedure.
Reviews every patient MRI screening form for accuracy and verifies any contraindications using manufacturer cards, MRI Safety website, books or vendor contacts.
Produces diagnostic quality images that demonstrates proper positioning of patient and equipment, selecting correct image protocols and parameters as approved by the Radiologist and ACR guidelines.
Communicates procedure delays with clerical staff for efficient patient throughput.
Consistently practices MRI safety with all patients and personnel while in Zone 3 and Zone 4 100% of the time.
Consistently practices the use of immobilization devices for patient safety and diagnostic image quality.
Verifies creatinine, GFR and other exam specific contraindications prior to the injection of contrast.
Successfully starts IV and completes a point of care creatinine if applicable.
Consistently follows sterile technique when setting up sterile trays for moderately invasive procedures.
Completes required consents and time out processes for all moderately invasive procedures 100% of the time. Communicates all contraindications to radiologist and/or ordering physician prior to the procedure.
Completes the MRI Screening Form and Patient History accurately and documents contrast usage for every examination 100% of the time.
Assists with the training and evaluation of Radiology students and new hires, as applicable.
Maintains an adequate number of supplies necessary to perform procedures and advises lead technologist and/or manager if additional supplies and/or equipment is needed to perform a procedure.
Performs quality control on equipment and records results as mandated by JCAHO, ACR, state, and FDA.
Reports problems with equipment to the vendor or Medical Imaging Director within one hour in person, phone or email.
Correctly identifies, scans and annotates the anatomical side of interest 100% of the time in accordance with departmental policy and medical/legal requirements.
Validates all images are identified with the patient’s name and date of birth, date of service and unit number 100% of the time.
Validates proper charging of exams based on examination performed and supplies used.
Submits every study for validation and efficient billing 100% of the time.
Contacts ordering physician for valid order and insurance authorization when Radiologist wants a different examination performed.
Actively participates in process improvement initiatives within the department.
Registered MRI Technologist, minimum 2 years’ experience preferred, Siemens experience a plus. BLS required. Candidate will be available to assist various hours, Monday - Friday 06:30-19:00 to cover high volume days and vacation coverage throughout the year. Position does not currently cover weekends, nights after 7 pm or holidays.
