General Summary Of Position We have an opportunity for a PRN Clinical Pharmacist to join our team at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. This position will be primarily rotating weekends (every 4th weekend) and evenings/holidays. Provides pharmaceutical care to assigned patients under the supervision of a more senior clinical pharmacist/manager. Evaluates and interprets physician orders and dispenses medication and other pharmaceutical supplies in accordance with established operational procedures, professional standards, and state, district, and federal laws. Responsibilities Evaluates medication orders for accuracy and thoroughness. Resolves discrepancies of medication orders through communication with physician, clinical pharmacist, or nursing staff and dispenses medication. Assesses feasibility of compounds or verifies the compounding of extemporaneous products; recommends alternative products when appropriate. Prepares IV admixtures and compounds, including large volume parenteral mini-bags, TPN solutions, and hazardous agents such as cytotoxic drugs. Independently responds to non-evaluative drug information requests. Monitors and takes appropriate action to ensure optimum patient drug therapy, drug selection, and minimal adverse drug reactions under supervision. Reviews patient profiles to determine contraindications and screens drugs/dosages to ensure therapeutic appropriateness. Dispenses controlled substances and maintains perpetual inventory, ensuring legal requirements and departmental policies are followed. Provides technical supervision of support personnel, oversees workflow, attendance, and verifies technicians' accuracy in preparation and packaging of medications. Enters and verifies computer entries and drug order data; may instruct patients/families on safe medication use and counsel them on potential adverse effects.

Qualifications

Education: Doctoral degree PharmD or an equivalent Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy required.

Experience:

12 years of direct patient care experience in a hospital setting required. PGY-1 preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

RPH Registered Pharmacist Licensure in the state of Maryland required. Board certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.
