Job Summary The Quality Engineer works with internal teams to maintain high quality standards by designing inspection procedures, developing control plans, completing root cause analysis, and managing PPAP processes. The role manages relationships with customers and suppliers to ensure compliance with quality requirements.
Responsibilities
Develop and manage essential quality documents such as Process Control Plans, Work Instructions, and Gauge Instructions.
Participate in the development and review of product and process documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Address and resolve customer concerns in a timely manner, including on‑site presentations if required.
Complete and submit Customer Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) packages and samples on schedule.
Monitor customer specific requirements and customer portals, updating documentation to maintain compliance.
Organize and lead meetings to identify root causes and implement corrective actions for quality issues with customers or suppliers.
Manage corrective action processes to ensure resolution of internal, customer, and supplier issues and maintain the Customer/Supplier Concern Log.
Evaluate and approve PPAP submissions from suppliers and manage supplier performance.
Collaborate with core team on ongoing improvement initiatives.
Train production employees on new products, including gauges, fixtures, and detailed inspection instructions and boundary samples.
Support the quality assurance team to ensure compliance with customer requirements and quality systems.
Complete dimensional reports, capability studies, and measurement systems analysis.
Perform internal and external audits, including LPA, quality system, manufacturing process, and supplier audits as required.
Interact and collaborate with all departments to resolve manufacturing issues, enhance processes, and address concerns.
Other duties as assigned.
Academic/Educational Requirements Post‑secondary bachelor’s degree in engineering or a relevant field (Manufacturing, Quality, Industrial) or equivalent expertise gained through professional experience, training, or certifications.
Required Skills/Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in quality manufacturing within the automotive industry.
Knowledge and experience with APQP, PPAP, PCP, PFMEA, 8D, MSA, GD&T, Gauge R&R, and Metrology.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprint drawings and GD&T symbols.
Proficient in interpreting standards and customer requirements to ensure compliance.
Advanced knowledge of applying Statistical Process Control (SPC) concepts and utilizing data for process improvements.
Understanding of metallurgical principles.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create and deliver presentations to management, customers, and suppliers.
Ability to prepare quality assurance reports outlining manufacturing issues, corrective actions, and preventative measures for non‑technical audiences.
Ability to interpret customer specific requirements and ensure compliance.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Ability to learn new software applications.
