Lifestyle Director – The Bristal Assisted Living Location: Ronkonkoma, NY

Salary: $101,600 – $152,300 per year

Schedule Tues‑Sat 9:00 am – 5:30 pm

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain activity programs for Assisted Living Residents and Reflections Program Residents.

Assist residents in continuing hobbies and interests they pursued previously.

Offer new opportunities to enhance residents’ lives through crafts, drama, choral groups, discussion groups and other learning experiences.

Plan and coordinate outings to a variety of sites, including art galleries, theaters, music venues, racetracks, religious and cultural programs.

Provide ongoing activities within the facility to foster friendships.

Assist residents in forming clubs and organizations, creating leadership and community involvement opportunities.

Plan a monthly calendar of events that meets residents’ religious, social, emotional, educational and recreational needs.

Coordinate resident finances for special activities and events organized by the Programming Department.

Write and edit a monthly newsletter for distribution to each resident and appropriate staff; use it as a marketing tool.

Coordinate transportation for all special trips planned by the Programming Department.

Interview new residents, provide a welcome basket, and orient them to the building, amenities and activities.

Produce seasonal decorations for theme events.

Maintain records of the Resident Council, its officers, and minutes of each meeting.

Establish a welcome committee to ensure smooth new resident move‑ins.

Request supplies as needed for the program in accordance with the activities budget.

Maintain knowledge of residents’ backgrounds, hobbies, special interests, and languages spoken.

Coordinate exercise and swim programs for active and/or disabled residents based on individual needs.

Recruit volunteers to assist with social programs.

Arrange for photography at major events and maintain a photo album; distribute press releases to local media.

Become knowledgeable about all equipment necessary for the Programming Department.

Network with external contacts to recruit community groups for participation in Bristal activities.

Provide positive publicity for Bristal.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Executive Director.

Staff Management

Manage the Programming Department staff, including interviewing, hiring, coaching, training, disciplining, and terminating.

Create monthly schedules for staff, ensuring coverage on all shifts; cover shifts in person when necessary.

Evaluate staff and conduct annual performance reviews.

Perform safety observation reports on staff.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a related field.

Experience working with older adults.

Minimum of four (4) years of experience developing social activity programs for seniors.

Excellent organizational skills.

Outgoing, warm, and caring personality.

Proficiency in at least one social activity such as crafts, music, or dance.

Clear speaking voice.

Fluent in English; able to speak and hear in person and on the phone.

Clean driving record; CDL license required or to be obtained within 6 months of employment.

First Aid certification.
