ASRC Federal Communications is seeking an HVAC Technician for our ISS2 contact supporting our Air Force customer. This position is located on Wake Island and is a rotational role: 3 months on the island and 1 month off. Work is based in a dormitory with meals provided at the cafeteria. The employee is responsible for the flight from their home base to HNL. Transportation to Wake Island is provided by a government‑sponsored aircraft. This is a negotiated union position.
General Summary The HVAC Technician repairs, overhauls, maintains, and services commercial, industrial, and residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Repair, overhaul, maintain, and service industrial and residential heating, ventilating, hydronic, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units.
Clean, service, and repair mechanical room equipment.
Troubleshoot and locate malfunctions, diagnose problems, and determine repairs.
Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts that register various aspects of HVAC operations.
Repair or replace compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys.
Service and repair evaporators, condensers, and receivers.
Repack valves, lubricate moving parts, replace filters and clean coils as needed.
Recover, track, and manage refrigerants and all ozone‑depleting chemicals (ODCs) under EPA Regulations.
Adjust, repair, or replace thermostats, pressure stays, relays, switches, and electrical wiring.
Repair components within a system to include transformers, motors, electrodes, solenoids, rheostats, and aqua‑asts.
Maintain logs and equipment inventories.
Record various aspects of HVAC systems and their operations.
Treat HVAC systems with chemicals and analyze for acidity, causticity, and alkalinity following prescribed methods.
Install or repair water, steam, or other types of piping associated with heating and hot/cold domestic water systems.
Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools; cut and thread pipe using machine threading or hand threading equipment.
Bend and form sheet metal for ductwork, grease pans, etc.
Paint and insulate HVAC mechanical rooms and distribution equipment.
Work from blueprints, drawings, models and/or verbal and written instructions.
Inspect work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, policies, and regulations.
Ensure proper housekeeping of job site, mechanical rooms, and shops; maintain equipment, storage, and maintenance areas clean, safe, and serviceable.
Respond to call‑outs after normal working hours, as needed.
Perform other tasks as directed by Management or Designated Representative.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
EPA §608 Universal CFC Handling Certification or ability to maintain certification within 90 days of start date.
Demonstrated HVAC mechanical technical hands‑on experience.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs regularly.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass a pre‑employment background check, physical, fingerprints, and drug screening.
Ability to understand, speak, read, and write English.
Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
