Job Summary Perform a variety of duties related to the protection of life and property, enforcement of criminal and traffic laws, prevention of crime, preservation of the public peace, apprehension of criminals, and calls for service. Perform basic police services in accordance with the mission, goals and objectives of the Georgia Tech Police and in compliance with governing federal and state laws. This position will interact consistently with supervisors, co‑workers, GT employees, students and campus visitors. The officer will advise and counsel GT employees, students and visitors. This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Engage in law enforcement patrol functions by foot, bike or vehicle, including rotating shifts and physically checking doors and windows of buildings to ensure they are secure. Conduct visual and audio surveillance.

Operate a law enforcement vehicle during day and night shifts, responding to emergency situations involving speeds in excess of posted limits and hazardous road conditions caused by fog, smoke, rain, ice or snow.

Effect an arrest, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and restraints; subdue resisting suspects using maneuvers and approved weapons in self‑defense.

Exercise independent judgment in determining reasonable suspicion, probable cause for search and arrest, and appropriate use of force.

Prepare investigative and other reports, including sketches, using appropriate grammar, symbols and calculations.

Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters, directing traffic, delivering emergency medical aid, lifting, dragging and removing people from dangerous situations.

Mediate disputes and advise of rights and processes.

Gather information in criminal investigations by interviewing victims, witnesses, suspects and confidential informers, and collecting evidence and substances.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements High school diploma, GED certificate or vocational school diploma.

Required Qualifications None specified beyond educational requirements.

Other Required Qualifications Overnight travel required for project delivery; flexibility in on‑site daily service hours due to client shift schedules and project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications Educational Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience:

One to three years as a police officer within a police department, military experience with Honorable Discharge (DD214), or experience in a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee may need to use hands to operate objects, reach for tools, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and sometimes lift or move more than 100 pounds.

Compensation Salary range: $23,020 – $31,300 (Recruiting Range). Grade: A7.
