As a

Manager Electrical Engineering

you will be responsible for the management and focus of the Electrical Reliability Engineers and Electrical Specialists, improving and ensuring the reliability of the electrical power distribution systems, and strategically implementing power distribution system changes to achieve maximum flexibility and reliability.

Responsibilities

Provide technical and managerial leadership for the Electrical Engineering Department. Motivate employees toward goals of electrical system safety and reliability. Coordinate the daily activities of the Electrical Engineering Department. Oversee implementation of tools used to evaluate and prioritize departmental assignments. Supervise staff as required to provide technical support for Operations and Maintenance.

Establish and maintain a good working relationship with local utility company to include routine communications and long‑range planning to improve power supply reliability. Maintain monthly communications directly or by delegating to other engineering staff in the electrical reliability group. Maintain minutes of said meetings for distribution to appropriate refinery personnel.

Manage the Electrical Engineering and Specialist staff to optimize technical support.

Supervise Engineering and Specialist support on all electrical power distribution equipment for capital projects—equipment specification and installation in accordance with Valero, NEC and IEEE guidelines to assure long‑term reliability and asset optimization.

Supervise Engineering and Specialist support for turnaround activities on all major and/or critical electrical systems, including developing inspection and repair recommendations.

Supervise the Engineering and Specialist staff to resolve electrical equipment reliability issues identified by the “Bad Actors” list, using formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methods and cross‑functional teams. Identify, define and implement projects designed to improve power distribution and electrical equipment reliability and performance plant‑wide.

Supervise staff in the development of maintenance standards for power distribution and electrical equipment and associated training. Utilize staff to provide required operator training on high, medium, and low voltage electrical equipment.

Provide assistance with the preparation of the capital and expense budgets. Provide reports as necessary for budget and monthly activities. Promote the environmental and safety goals of Valero.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.

10 years of industrial electrical power systems experience with exposure and responsibilities in maintenance/engineering areas.

Able and willing to work on‑site, in person at the Valero Texas City Refinery.

Preferred Requirements

5 years of direct management of personnel.
