The Material Planner is responsible for ensuring the timely and efficient planning, procurement, and availability of materials to support production and new product development. This role requires strong ERP expertise, cross-functional coordination, and strategic planning capabilities to optimize inventory, mitigate supply risks, and support business objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Material Planning & Inventory Management
Manage the Master Production Schedule (MPS) based on forecasting and sales orders.
Adjust material plans in response to demand fluctuations, production changes, and supply constraints.
Analyze usage trends and optimize planning parameters to minimize excess and shortages.
Develop and implement safety stock strategies to ensure continuity of supply.
Recommend product schedule releases aligned with configuration phase-outs to reduce inventory investment.
Ensure accuracy of Bills of Materials (BOM) in SAP and support Engineering Change Order alignment.
Supply Chain Coordination & Risk Management
Track supplier performance and lead times to improve material availability to production. Resolve supply chain disruptions and elevate critical shortages as needed. Lead SCM change management processes including PCMT and scrap review. Support make/buy decisions in collaboration with sourcing and procurement teams. Serve as the primary contact for cross-functional communication related to material planning.
ERP, MRP & Master Data Management
Own and support ERP system planning functionality, long-term enhancements, and implementation. Act as point-of-contact for ERP changes impacting demand, supply, and SCM configuration. Integrate ERP with Master Data. Recommend and test SAP transaction enhancements and participate in upgrade implementations.
Govern master data for supply chain, including ROP, SLED, VMI, and demand/signal management.
Reporting & Analytics
Generate reports on material usage, shortages, excesses, and planning accuracy. Track and report key functional metrics to support business objectives. Support the planning team with forecasting, inventory analysis, report development, and master data maintenance.
Strategic & Cross-Functional Planning
Lead strategic planning initiatives including system integration and ERP management. Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) for new product development. Support planning activities for both sustaining production and new programs. Provide oversight for high-dollar, complex changes and interact with Sr. management team.
Process Improvement & Governance
Evaluate and implement process improvements to enhance planning efficiency. Participate in lean initiatives and continuous improvement projects. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for material planning. Document and follow up on planning-related actions and decisions.
Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
Bachelors Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Manufacturing Engineer, or Finance preferred. 5+ years of directly related progressive experience within Material Planning Masters degree in Supply Chain a plus. APICS/CPIM certification preferred. Experience with master data governance and cross-functional collaboration.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced knowledge and/or experience with SAP. Advanced understanding of MRP fundamentals. Advanced analytical ability with exposure to database concepts.
Proficient in Excel functions and other Microsoft Applications. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Self-motivated nature with an ability to work independently with minimum supervision and simultaneously manage multiple projects. Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with suppliers and all levels of company personnel.
Physical Requirements:
Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise, heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
