Infrastructure Engineer
Part of a larger team delivering high quality computer, network, storage, and end-user infrastructure technology solutions, on-going support to the business. Independently completes infrastructure project assignments. Plan, research, evaluate, design, and engineer the enterprise's technology infrastructure. Provide technical support and troubleshooting, cost estimates, justifications, and recommendations. Produces technical documentation, support and configuration. Manage, plan, and maintain technical platforms including upgrading systems. Monitor system performance and installs and configures hardware. Responsible for collaborating with other job families such as project managers, architects, solution engineers, technicians, business analysts to deliver consistent, reliable technology solutions that leverage AEP's technology standards, architectures and best practices. Working independently, responsibilities include the following related to computer, network, storage, cloud, and end-user infrastructure: perform infrastructure project assignments. Plan, research, evaluate and design infrastructure solutions. Directly support the F5's and Infoblox platform in the corporate network environment Firewall configuration, installation and maintenance for Cisco ASA, Fortigate firewalls and FTD's Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide 24x7 support Develop and plan network incident resolution, configuration audit and updates, as well as vulnerability remediations Provide a high level of technical support and analysis, operation, administration, and troubleshooting activities. Prepare cost estimates, justifications, application requirements, alternative solutions, and technical recommendations. Prepare technical documentation including procedures, manuals, and reports. Review and adhere to budgeting and approval processes while assisting with annual and project planning. May provide training and mentoring, as well as work direction, to others on the team. Infrastructure Engineer Senior (SG7): Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field is required. 5 years of relevant work experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered. Infrastructure Engineer Principal (SG8): Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field is required. 7 years of relevant work experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered. Nice-to-have: Five years in direct support of network operations in a large enterprise environment, preferably within the utility or energy sector. ServiceNow or similar ITIL experience is a plus. An advanced understanding of network communications technologies and demonstrate the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, coordinate and resolve complex network issues and projects. Proficiency in networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP). Strong knowledge and experience with IPAM-DDI solutions. Strong knowledge and experience supporting F5 DNS, GTM and local traffic manager (LTM). Knowledge of network security practices. Familiarity with hardware (routers, switches, firewalls). Experience with network monitoring tools. Knowledge in routing and switching protocol, WAN technologies including MPLS, point to point, MAN and wireless; LAN technologies including LAN design standards and best practices, data center network design and wireless solutions; and security standards with firewall, design and best practices. Experience in Unix/Linux. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to clearly communicate complex findings and present them to ensure audience appeal at various levels of the organization and with clients.
