Senior Data Engineer, Consumer

Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news. We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer, Consumer to join our team! This is a hands-on technical leader responsible for the design, development and optimization of our enterprise-grade customer data platform (CDP). This role is critical in designing the foundational systems that leverage large-scale, real-time consumer data to power analytics, personalization / recommendation, and marketing activation. This position requires close collaboration with data science, product and marketing teams. Key Responsibilities: Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and transforming large volumes of consumer data (Batch and Streaming). Own and evolve the consumer data model and architecture, ensuring performance, quality, and extensibility. Design and implement robust, scalable data models (dimensional, relational, graph) within our Snowflake data warehouse to support analytics and activation use cases. Collaborate with Data Science teams to implement recommendation systems, supporting machine learning models with efficient data pipelines and infrastructure. Design and implement identity resolution frameworks to create unified consumer profiles across multiple data sources and touchpoints. Work with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern data stack tools (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks). Lead the evaluation of emerging technologies and propose scalable solutions to enhance platform capabilities. Establish and champion best practices for software engineering, data engineering, and system design within the team. Ensure the platform's scalability, reliability, performance, security, and cost-efficiency are architected from the ground up. Mentor and provide deep technical guidance to a high-performing team of data and platform specialists located globally. Required Skills: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar field (combination of education and relevant experience may be substituted). 10+ years of progressive experience in designing, building, and managing large-scale data platforms and distributed systems. Deep technical understanding and hands-on architectural experience with data warehousing solutions (Snowflake), data lake architectures, and big data technologies (Spark). Proven expertise in advanced data modeling, real-time data processing using technologies like Kafka or Kinesis, and event-driven architecture. Expert-level proficiency in programming languages (Python, Scala) and SQL. Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and building CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure. Strong understanding of identity resolution methodologies and privacy-enhancing technologies. Desired Skills: Master's degree. Experience with specific CDP platforms (RudderStack) and the broader MarTech stack (Braze, Kochava, Amplitude). Experience within the OTT media, streaming platforms, and viewer behavior analytics domains. Relevant Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, Snowflake).
