The digital modernization sector at Leidos is seeking a dynamic Junior Software Engineer to support cloud modernization initiatives for the United States Coast Guard (USCG) at Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Cyber, and Intelligence Service Center (C5ISC) in the Alexandria, VA area. This role is part of a high-impact program focused on delivering secure, scalable cloud solutions that enable operational agility and resilience across the USCG enterprise. As a Junior Patching Support Engineer, you'll help maintain system integrity and compliance by executing patching operations across cloud environments. This role includes responsibility for cloud patching operations across our customers AWS/Azure infrastructure, ensuring secure, compliant, and high-performing virtual desktop and cloud systems. You'll work closely with cloud engineers, cybersecurity analysts, and program leadership to drive continuous improvement and deliver value to the mission. Key Responsibilities: Execute patching strategies for AWS and Azure cloud services. Automate patch deployment using AWS, Azure, and other third-party tools. Monitor patch compliance and generate reports for audit and security teams. Coordinate with application owners to schedule and validate patching windows. Respond to patch-related incidents and rollback procedures when necessary. Other: Support cross-functional coordination across engineering, cybersecurity, and program management teams. Promote continuous improvement through feedback loops and process refinement. Ensure alignment with USCG mission priorities and Leidos delivery standards. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Business) 2+ years of experience in cloud software engineering. Proficiency with AWS core services (EC2, S3, IAM, Systems Manager). Experience with patching tools such as Azure Update Management, AWS Patch Manager, Adaptiva, SCCM, or MECM. Familiarity with AWS and Azure cloud platforms and their patching tools (e.g., Systems Manager, Update Management) Basic understanding of Windows and Linux server environments Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust and DoD Secret Clearance Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience supporting DHS, USCG, or other federal cloud modernization efforts Strong documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
